Throat Guard

The SSK wire spyder is l the cool rare throat guard .  Any opinions on this a way cheaper plastic sort of copy

Yes...I have one on my silver Champro Rampage. Aesthetically, I like the looks of it however I have taken no shots to it so, I can't comment on its protective quotient.

My only concern is that it has velcro straps...cheap velcro straps. The kind not meant to be separated and adjusted too frequently. I keep a set of snap loops in my bag for when the straps eventually fail.

As always with throat guards, put it on your mask, put on your chest protector and get in your plate stance. Have a partner view the throat guard from several angles to insure it is hanging below the front neck lip of the chest protector. If not, try a different throat guard, chest protector...or both. Please also review the video at Ump-Attire or YouTube demonstrating the proper way throat guards are to be installed. It is vital it is attached to the correct part of the mask's frame.

I use that Mizuno on all my masks. But I use thicker, doubled up velcro straps. Two winds, instead of just one. 

 

I put a rubber bumper on mine, to keep them from "clacking" against the frame. 

 

Not sure why anyone would want a metal one, but what do I know?

Hey @kylejt, can you please post a pic of a closeup of your throat guard bumpers? I've heard guys talk about doing this but, have never seen how it's done...

Just a little rubber bumper, placed so it contacts the lower frame when it swings forward. Found them at the local hardware store.

Thank you...that is very helpful. Hardware store, yes! I think those are bumpers meant for cabinets or drawers were you want to minimize the slamming or banging. Perfect solution...
