Question
Guest Richard
Runners on 1st & 3rd, 1 out. Batter hits a deep pop fly to CF and the runner on 3rd runs home at the crack of the bat. He is basically in the dugout by the time the CF makes the leaping catch against the wall for out #2. The runner on 1st tagged up and runs to 2nd properly after the catch. The CF throws to 2B and gets the runner in a rundown and eventually after a few throws between defensive teammates, someone tags out the runner for out #3. Does the run count if no defensive player ever appeals to 3rd base? Are the umpires required to declare the run as invalid or is it the defensive team responsibility to appeal?
