U12 girls softball . Bases loaded, no outs. Batter hits up first base line. First base fields the grounder tags the batter on the way to first.

First question (if the runner is tagged out before they reach first base, are all of the other runners still required to advance and if so : )

First base throws home , gets the lead runner out. The runner who was on first has advanced to second and the first base coach calls her back to first.

Second question, since she has already tagged second base does that negate the force? If the catcher throws to second  does second need to make a tag or will the runner originally on first be called on the force out because they originally had to advance

Runner needs to be tagged while not on a base

Runner returning it 1B is legal.

I hope this runner was tagged out -- she was no longer forced so the defense can't get an out just by stepping on the plate (absent some crazy local rule)

Once the batter is out, all forces are removed.  That's the simplest way to remember it.   Why?   The force is on because the presence of the batter advancing to first forces the runner on first to advance, and so on.  If the batter is out, nothing is forcing the runner to vacate the base.

So, the play at the plate would have to be a tag, and the play on the runner between first and second needs to be a tag.

IF the force was still on (ie. the batter wasn't put out), once the runner touched second, and then ran back to first, the force would be back on, and the defense could tag second base to get her out.

And contrary to popular belief, softball allows forced runners to retreat.
