I'm thinking of making an SSK Spyder throat guard myself....... the issue is that I do not know the dimensions. Can someone who owns one give me the dimensions of it? Also, What kind of metal would you recommend?

How are you planing on making this if you are unaware of metal properties? I would consult an engineer or at least a fabricator of good respect.

Good luck.  Keep us posted as to how it goes.

Correction, I was not planning on making it myself. I am not a skilled enough welder to pull that off but I have a friend who is a skilled welder and if I supply the material, I am sure he could do it. I was even planning on making it longer than most throat guards for added protection.

I would still consult an engineer with a background in metal properties. Adding heat, bends, or cuts to different metals can change the flex allowances greatly.

Why would you want metal on something that might swing up and hit your throat? Yeah, I sorta get the cool factor because they're hard to get, and some MLB guys sport them. But is it worth it?

That said, hollow tube steel might be your best bet.

I owned one before and liked it. I would say it is worth it.

I no longer have it. But the SSK is longer than a standard TG.
