Hi all.

I'm looking for an online officiating community similar to this one except for the other sports (basketball and football).

Anybody that works basketball and football found any good websites like this one to ask questions on rules/equipment, clinics, etc?

Thanks.

I used to go to officiating.com, but I agree, there are some real a-holes. It was not a pleasant place.

I was very pleased to find this community.

Glad to hear that things are better over there.  I freely admit to not going back for the last couple of years due to the harshness.

The more info out there, the better for all of us.

Hi all.

I've been asked many times about creating a similar site for officials of other sports and here's my typical response.

I absolutely would, but I'm not the ideal lead person. I do not have a passion for officiating other sports, I don't have all the time necessary. Now, I would buy additional licenses of the software. I lease a server and have the capability to host virtually unlimited websites from it so that's not a big deal either, BUT...

  • I'd need somebody else to be the lead person and that person would have to convince me:
    • That they have a passion for officiating several other sports
    • Have the time necessary to make a site successful
    • Have the patience to realize it won't happen overnight
    • Have the online persona to draw people in
    • They can identify and tell me the shortcomings offered elsewhere AND what their proposed solution is.
    • They overall share most of my viewpoints of what makes a successful forum
    • They have a plan of how to draw in members
    • They realize this is a labor of love and not a money making opportunity. FYI: Umpire-Empire is now profitable on a year to year basis but still not broken even from 2008.
    • That they can build a team of highly respected moderators who
      • Also have the passion for their sports
      • Also have the time to actively participate
      • Also have the persona

Here we have people who officiate everything from your other traditional HS and college sports to things like MMA, boxing we even have someone who is a judge for multiple rodeo events. So we have a small initial audience available.

If anybody is interested I could have the site up pretty quickly. PM or email me...
