Did anyone watch the Yankees National game last night?  Yankees 2B hits a slow roller down the 3rd baseline that almost hit McCann. Michael Kay states that McCann was lucky the ball didn't hit him otherwise he'd be out (agreed). Then he states that if McCann was standing on the bag and got hit, he'd be safe.  Is this just another case of announcers knowing nothing or am I missing something?

F5 was slightly behind the bag so it didn't pass an infielder if he was hit on the bag.

It happens a lot.

It happens way too much.  Announcers should have to take rules exams so they know what they're talking about...on all parts of the game.  Not just the play of the game but the umpiring of the game, as well.

It's an occupational hazard: they're paid to keep talking, no matter what, and sometimes their mouths engage without their brains.

Also, we all (not just announcers, and including umpires) think we know the rules of baseball better than we do. ;)

The real problem is that they are perceived to be an authority.  There lies the issue.

I agree with this part. They should take some rules exams.
