2015 has officially begun!!

Got my first one in today. 

 

JV game on the bases.  My footwork was definitely rusty, but by the 4th I was feeling much more comfortable.  Had a tight tag play on a runner that took too wide of a turn around 2B.  Throw from F7 was cut by F5 who fired to the second baseman covering.  Got the tag down nice and quick.  It was close, but I was sure of the call.

 

Almost got burned on a balk.  R1 left early and the RHP turned and instead of throwing to first he just broke to chase the runner.  I wasn't sure that the pitcher DIDN'T step off first, so my partner and I got together and in the end, got it right (BALK).

 

Pretty chilly out there and VERY windy which would have made the IFF very iff-y.  When the wind stopped and the sun poked through, it was actually very pleasant.

 

Great to be back out there today.  First plate game coming up this Thursday.

 

Hope everyone else here in the NE and upper mid-west gets underway as well.

Congrats. You beat me. Cancelled again today. Pre season a complete wash. 0-9. Regular season opens Wednesday. Maybe???

Felt a little rusty but settled in ........

 

Had a banger at 2nd on a steal (out), and a whacker at first (out) .... with howling 30mph gusts!

 

Got it in though, and glad to shake off the rust

First game today.  HS varsity non-conference.  College DH on Saturday -- this is my "farewell tour" as I already told the college assigner I won't be back next season.  

 

Only D3 around here and, frankly, it's too much time, not enough cash, and very little joy for me.  

 

2-man crews for 18 inning DHes EVERY DAY is probably the main reason I've lost interest -- if we worked 3-man or worked single games, I'd probably be as enthusiastic as can be.  But 18 innings every day including a 9-inning plate for 5-6 hours with a 2+ hour drive each way?  Give me my weekends back.

Ah, baseball!  The sights, the sounds, the smells.  Mostly the smells.

 

I also opened yesterday after getting weathered-out of last week's scrimmage and this past Saturday's games.  The park was in great shape.  The visitors were late.  Start time was pushed back.  Too windy to raise the flag, so they tied it to the CF fence, correctly displayed I might add.  That was, for the most part, the last correct thing either team did for a while.

14 runs and 8 pitching changes later, we finished the 2d inning!  I went through 3 visiting catchers acting not a lot different than bean-bag chairs in front of me.  Both coaches questioned the NFHS' 3d-to-1st move.  One wanted a substitution-reentry rule clarification.  The same one questioned a batted ball that he thought hit an opposing batter's foot because the BR was safe.  He said; I said.  After 2 hours and 27 minutes, we finally ended it when home went ahead by 10 in the bottom of the 5th. 

 

Ah, baseball.  It's in the air.  Mercifully, I was upwind.
