I already looked. Does anybody here on Umpire-Empire work for Perfect Games?  I worked at the Area Code showcase this weekend and a player told me that they fly umpires in to work the Arizona tournament.  I'd like a little of that action as I don't live that far from there.

I work PG.

They do not fly Umps to Arizona. They will ask certain Umpires to go but you get there on your own. They will pay lodging.

If they haven't seen you umpire you won't go.

You would have to join http://www.umpnation.com/ and work games.

Thanks. With all those games you would wonder how they are able to watch all of the umpires they will have needed to hire.

Believe me they know if you can umpire or not. There are supervisors at every site we work at.us PG has an official scorekeeper behind every backstop of every game that give feedback to the supervisors.

I've seen new guys come in and umpire a game or 2. Then you never see them again. Quietly dismissed. Sometimes not so quietly.

Teams pay up to $1500 to play. They just don't want any Jocko, Pete or Dave working the games.

LMAO.  I sent an email to Glenn a little earlier. Hopefully he will answer me and I'll be working with you guys next season. This one's pretty well gone.  And, I can umpire.  Not the gear guy that Hickman is though. Ha Got to see Chris in action yesterday for an inning. He was doing his usual stellar job.

Jax,

How much does PG pay per game?  I've heard a figure before, they are in Atlanta just south of me, but wanted to know from someone that works PG.

I assume PG picks their umpire directors for certain tournaments because I am the UIC for two small PG tournaments being hosted in October. Coach hosting the tournament is responsible for securing his UIC. I'm definitely not going to be flying any guys in haha Game fees are still being negotiated but it will be in the $55-$70 range for those (1 hour 50 min no new inning time limit)

For the bigger tournaments Glenn Carnes will have his own uic 's .

At least in Atlanta and Ft Myers

Wow. The entrance fee is $1500 BUT they only pay umpires $55-$70. Should be $100+.

As always, screw the umpires.

Ump Nation/perfect Game treats us very well. My lodging is usually paid for. They pay us for games we do not work.

They bring us food in the locker rooms.

The top tournaments are $1500. Some of the others are $700.

It really is a sweet deal.

Entrance fee is smaller for this one. Some of the field fees are outrageous from what the host coach was telling me. I told him it was baseball and the teams would be able to come up with any entrance fee he put out there.

Bc that's what travel baseball parents do. They show the money.

Nope- there is nothing sweet about getting $55-$70 for a game like this.

$12 per each 15 min of secheduled game time rounded up.

The problem comes when there are others that will do it for less. You can always sell how good your umpires are but who is the one 'rating' these umpires come gametime? The coaches.

It's the price of doing business. My reputation is not as well known right now in the travel ball community - so it's my opportunity to continue to build upon that

Exactly.  Scorekeepers providing feedback?  Why not the grounds crew?

Teams pay $1500 - how does the organization feel about an umpire ejecting a player or some chucklehead coach that deserves it?  That's what I'd like to know.

The point in my previous post was not to address the concept of EJ and how the TD views keeping/throwing coaches.

The subject was in regards to the business side of a tournament. The tournaments I am UIC for are only a team entry fee of $750 and only 6-8 teams.

I understand there are big pockets everywhere around a tourney and umpires is not where you skimp, but the basic principles of sales and quality of product is a factor in negotiations.

TD sought me out to run the umpire sides of things because he knows the type of umpire I am and the way I run things, but if that price gets too high, there are other umpires/UICs ready to take for less.

Central Alabama is not on the level of $100/game for a HS age game. The great local guys are more than happy (in fact, feel blessed) to do a sub 2 hr game for $60 per.

These aren't the biggest of the grandest tournaments. Not much national implication involved with what we get here. Gotta start somewhere.

Where do you work, that they pay you more during the offseason? All of the games I do fall in the $55-$75 for 2 man baseball 7-9 inning games.

Jax,

It looks like they have about 6 Showcase and 4 or 5 tournaments in Southern California. I just sent the gentleman an email to see if they have openings for umpires out here.

Thanks for the heads up.

It could be that some group other than Ump Nation work perfect game in California.

My point is if they are paying $700 $1500 per tournament AND they want quality umpires $55-$75 is TOO low.

Fall here is $6.00 per 15 min of scheduled ball.
