Apparently this kid is serious. He's already had more than one high quality CP and traditional mask and a HSM. He wants to look the part and eventually be a high quality umpire working higher level games. He asks about training options, equipment options, etc.

The great thing about buying high quality equipment and uniforms other than the respect and legitimacy factors you get from looking the part is that when/if you decide to hang it up there is always a market for your quality used stuff. Can never go wrong buying good gear and uniforms.

I agree with your overall point, but players/coaches/fans in 10U rec ball are usually just glad to have a guy show up in uniform. Polywools mean nothing to them. Hell we could switch to Davis or Smitty pants in college baseball next spring and no one would notice there. If I were the guy starting this thread, I would buy cheaper pants and put that money toward training.

 

I also agree that used pro equipment will bring good resale prices. I've sold used polywools and they don't usually do the same. Just my opinion.
