Surprised Even Me

Had an EJ the other night that surprised even me. 

 

15U playoff game.

 

The league is known for vocal coaches, obnoxious fans and mediocre ball at best.

 

Well, I've got the dish, batter goes to 2-2 count and I bang him out looking. He starts walking off shaking his head. About half way to the dugout he slams his bat to the ground followed by his helmet. He then yells that was a BULLS@%T CALL!!     I took a couple steps towards the bench to dump him and then......he turned around stared right at me and yells even louder F#CK YOU GO AHEAD AND EJECT ME!!  

 

My response.......O.K. Your Gone!     

 

I've had coaches, parents and even older players curse at me over the years but never one this young. It actually surprised me for a second which I didn't think could happen any more.

There is this part of me that wants to EJ the HC for this too.  I know it's not really warranted but just wow, control your players.

Agree with the ejection but sometimes the finger your not worthy of extra emphasis (Joe West) is good too.

This is what I was thinking too. I would have half a mind to keep him in so his next at bat he would have the biggest strike zone in the history of the game.

Son's game a few weeks ago. Strike on outside corner for strike. Kid stands in the box looking at the plate then back at PU then the plate and back to PU. PU advises kid that it would not be in his best interest to do that again. Next pitch strike on the corner and same bobble head act from batter. PU "You're gone!"

 

Inning later different kid starts mouthing off to PU walks onto the field and give the old double barrel flip off to PU. PU went straight to "BALL GAME!"

 

I was not lucky enough to get to see this quality display of sportsmanship but got to hear all about it from parents later. Entire team. coaches and players, were yelling and cursing and even threatening players throughout game. And oh yeah this was 13U ball???

We had a 10 year old in our league who at umpire orientation we were warned that he would flip you off if you called him out for throwing his bat(a league rule we had to rigorously enforce) where he learned this we never found out, but it happened every time, i never umped his team but i heard he had a long ejection record because every time he flipped an ump off he got tossed
