I was doing a 14u LL ball game yesterday. Pitchers not pitching fast, but fast enough to hurt.

A ball came that was totally missed the catcher and nailed my plate shoe. The very annoying part is that it hurt. A lot. I was walking with a limp the rest of the day, and it still hurts now.

I wear New Balance Plate Shoes... When I looked at my toe after the game, the shot had taken a good portion of my toenail off. Many levels above what I did there could have done much worse. When I took my plate shoe and pressed down, it wouldn't even budge, like it shouldn't.

Any idea what gives?

Perhaps there was a glitch in the matrix causing you the illusion of pain and injury

I wear NB 450's and have taken many non eventful hits off the toe. One, however, stung pretty bad on the big toe as well. In fact, a base coach asked my partner what kind of shoes I had on to take a impact like that.

Does anyone know if the NB shoes are steel toe or composite toe?

Still glitched then, because the nail is still gone (partly)!!

Matt,

I'm pretty sure the 450's are steel toe, but not 100% sure on the 460's.  However, ... depending on where you got them you can ask.  If it's Ump-Attire, you can ask Jim, if not, just go right to New Balance w/ the question.

Ouch!

It just happens sometimes. You take a shot at just the right angle and it stings you. I have the NB 450's as well and there are times when it gets me just right too.

It won't happen again for a few years now though. Don't worry :P

Except that you said that, so it will probably happen again tonight... THANKS A LOT.  :sarcasm:  :banghead:
