Strange rundown rotation?

[Richvee]

Working with a partner I work with frequently tonight. I'm PU. Bases empty. Fly ball on the RF line, but very short. My partner turns and takes maybe 2 steps out to get in position for F/F and catch/no catch. I make my way into the infield taking the BR. Ball falls fair, BR trying for 2nd. I get in position for a play at 2nd as F9 fires the ball to F6. BR puts on the brakes, and heads back to 1st. F6 starts running BR back towards 1st, and as I start back towards 1st, there's my partner on the outfield side near 1st and he says.."I got this end". Rundown ensues with a few throws and BR is tagged out heading back to 1st and my partner makes the call. We just looked at each other and smiled. Never had a rundown where PU had the 2nd base side of a rundown!

I love hearing those four words from my partner. Even better when the pickle ends up in an out!

Nice rotation Rich.

Not textbook, but sounds like you guys made it work. It sounds as if good communication was key to avoiding an even number of umpires at a base. Kudos!

"Sometimes you just need to umpire."

Good job.

(I frequently use the "Arthur Murray" analogy -- they can put all those fance footpirnts on the piece of paper, but when you are on the dance floor, you need to read your partner and adjust accordingly.)

Dude, you must be seriously old....

OTOH, I got the reference.

That's exactly what we said post game. You're not gonna find that one in any manual, but it worked perfect. Communication, knowing where your partner is, and knowing your partner, in general all helps.

I am guessing you even had the inside/outside angles covered with him coming back from the OF.  Awesome hustle for you guys.
