If there wasn't contact, calling interference on a play were R1 cuts in front of F4/5 is a tough call. I'll bet this umpire wishes he had slowed down his timing on that play.

I disagree with the first sentence. The fielder has virtually absolute right of way when fielding a batted ball. If he hesitates at all to avoid the runner, INT is an easy call.

 

One angle shows U2 turning and picking up the action late. I'd guess he was ruling "that's nothing" on the slight contact between runner and fielder, and did not have a good look at the hindrance. His signal made changing the call harder for the OC to swallow than it otherwise might have been.

No dispute that the fielder has the right-of-way. F4/6 charges, pulls up as runner passes in front of him. Did F4/6 pull-up to setup for the gloving as he normally would or did he pull-up because of interference.  IMO, those are hard calls to make. This play, not so hard to see because of the contact and F4 having no play because of it.
