SIAP I couldn't find a topic dealing with this.

When the bases are loaded and the infield is in what is the best position to be in? Both B and C put you right in front of one of the middle infielders. Do you just back up to where you are on the edge of the grass and out of their way or do you just stay in normal position and bust tail to get out of the way?

You back up to the edge of the grass in a deep or modified b.

I'm on the 1B side of 2B. Back just far enough to be out of F4/F6/R1's way...and you have to guard against staying there once the ball is put in play...move.

I go to deep B with RH batters, as I find more balls hit to the SS in that situation.  Also feel that a 2B ranging into the hole is a little less likely to go home, while a SS ranging to his left still might.

Huh? F6 has to turn to throw in that case. I don't see the chances of either being that high, but F4 has a far easier throw to home.

I go deep b and c. I also explain to the players that I am older and it takes longer, much longer, for me to heal. Once they stop laughing I will explain that if a ball is coming straight at me I will go in this direction to get out of their way. You might go over coverage with your partner in this situation during your pre game.

Then I am assuming you go to deep C when there is a LH?

@Platejob29   thanks for your post.   I used this tonight and felt pretty comfortable with it, especially knowing that's what they're teaching.   I, like the OP, never really knew where the best place to be was, and just kind of winged it.

I just find SS's in high school to usually be one of the top athletes/players on the team.  It's one of the smaller reasons I go to deep B, so not worth too much thought :)

Yes, just to stay out of that pull/power alley and have a slightly better look on check swings.
