Mississippi Opening Day

Today is opening day for high school baseball in Mississippi.  We are lucky to have such good high school baseball here in Northwest Mississippi and especially in my county.  Tonight my game is features the 4A defending state champs and a 6A quarterfinalist.  Both schools will be throwing starters that have signed to play in college and there will multiple Division I players on the field.  My county has 8 high schools.  Two won state championships(4A and 6A), 2 were final four(a 5A and a 6A), 2 quarterfinalists(a 5A and a 6A), one lost to the eventual 5A state champ in the first round.  Ready to get it goin' tonight!

A very well played game tonight. Two quality left-handed pitchers that were filling the strike zone. 4-2 in just under 2 hours. Game included a few great plays, a bomb by a Texas tech signee, and a great opening night crowd. Great to be on the field again. Oh yeah, I don't think the umpires missed a single call, and they looked good too.

Game included a few great plays, a bomb by a Texas tech signee, and a great opening night crowd. Great to be on the field again. Oh yeah, I don't think the umpires missed a single call, and they looked good too.

Hell, Missouri doesn't even start baseball practice until Monday. Most of them will be inside though since an ice/snow storm is hitting tonight and tomorrow. Baseball season here is really short. Something like 11 weeks from the first game until the state finals. Basketball season runs so late they don't dare start spring sports any earlier.

Today is our local little league opening day.  Rained out.  Games rescheduled for tomorrow but that's not looking too good.  I have two games scheduled for tomorrow.  It's been a long winter looking out the window, waiting.

I'm from here, all my family is here, same with the wife.

 

We've discussed going south if the opportunity came up. I absolutely would if it were somewhere warm with family remotely close. 

 

I don't even mind winter if it would just end at a reasonable date. We had snow/sleet into April last year and even got a light snow on May 3rd.

Just got done shoveling 3 inches of snow off of my driveway.  The current temperature outside is 14 degrees BELOW ZERO.

 

I'm scheduled to work my first college game in 19 days.  LOL

Surprised at how many do not work another sport during the off season -- even where you have baseball almost year round, its good to have some variety.
