I thought that the runner must make a legitimate attempt to advance to 2nd. The runner can turn left without being called out as long as their is no attempt to advance. correct?

Omega, you are correct in your thinking, though at the MLB level, even the slightest hint of movement towards 2nd will be deemed an attempt. Link please.

It is not something we would call at our level but obviously it is there. There were a couple this year that very slight.

Very slight. But that might be all it takes in "Mr. Snapback's" mind as an attempt. I agree with Michael. At our levels, we need much more then that to make this call.
