Earlier tonight I got a call to fill in in a 13-14 game and rushed out to do it, wound up on the plate. top of 4th VT at bat with 1 out and RI,R2. On base hit up the middle R2 rounds 3rd headed for home CF throws a one hop missle to F2 and I know R2 is  a dead man by 4 steps. F2 runs down the line about three steps to tag , and a train wreck as follows:

R2- sees that he is out slows up last step starts standing up with arms crossed hands at shoulders.

F2- holds his mit out with hand on ball and tags just above stomach.

R2,F2- collision

F2 is smaller his body bends backwards and he grabs R2 shirt, stays half way balanced and starts standing up.

R2- gives a small get off me small shove

F2- returns small shove.

PU-Me, I see trailing runners stop, I yell time and yell at R2, F2 separate now!!!! Order both boys to stand in front of their dugouts.

Both HC's are hollering for an ejection, I tell both to settle down and I talk to VT HC first.

PU- I tell VTHC I think his player did what he should do to not make it an MC, and I thought that F2 reached out to keep from falling backwards hard to the ground.

The only thing that I thought was wrong was the small shoves at the end. I call his R2 over and say your not ejected, and repeated what I told VTHC.

PU- I then went to the HTHC and his F2 and told them that he wasn't ejected, and repeated what I told the VT.

Both teams had zero subs so I hope I was making a good no call on ejection.

I see no issues in how you did this.

I will add that subs should play no role in you affirming a participant has ejected himself. If the consequences of his behavior are that his team cannot continue, that's his problem.

Sounds like you assessed the situation appropriately and provided good communication to both teams.  Looks good to me!!     I agree with the previous posts about the lack of subs....tough 'nanners!

Not rendering judgement on how YOU handled it. MC is HTBT and judgement. Here is how I personally handle things.

Once the play ends... "TIME!"

Get together out of anyone's earshot and assess/discuss

Once I decide on what I've seen,(in this case, I got nothing) I go back to the plate and continue play. I dont give lengthy discussions on my judgement calls. That might give the impression that I will discuss other judgement calls.

If either tean HC wants an explanation, they get a generic, short one.

YMMV

Good no call,I doubt I have a conversation with either coach. I have a way of saying hey three quick times followed by easy. Sometimes I follow it with," we're good guys."
