BI in Valpo/Illinois game 6/1/2013

I think it was Vandy/Illinois, but there was a BI call late in the game that appeared to be a border BI.

 

 

Is this how they want it called?

It was Vandy and Ilini.  To me I thought he might have called the interference on the backswing, it looked like it hit the catcher in the back as he was throwing.

Then that' just weak interference or whatever JR calls it -- that rule is the same as OBR.

I turned to the game just after it happened.  Announcers were saying something about how umpires shouldn't insert themselves into games like that.  

 

Also, the PU appeared to be a big guy, and it looked like he was wearing a ribbed protector.  Curious as to what kind he was wearing, because I wouldn't want to be on the dish in a D1 game without a hard shell protector of some sort.

I saw a play...not sure if this is the one you are talking about or not, but about 95% sure it is.  As soon as I saw it I said, "That's interference".  It was just a clip and wasn't even the entire play - just a going to a commercial highlight, so I can't go into any more details other than to say I thought it was interference.

 

I'd like to see the entire play, though.

Was it the play with a LH batter and a half swing that ended up being ball four?  I didn't see it but heard about it.  Apparently R1 was running on the pitch and they got the batter for INT on ball four.  I may be totally off as this is second-hand.

Nope, that would have been a different one.  This play involved a swing and a miss, the umpire judged (I think) that the batter's momentum from this swing carried him into the path of F2 who was attempting to make a play.  

 

Took a run off of the board for Illinois.

It was game 4 GT vs Illinois.  They just showed a replay of it in game 7.  Because Billy Jo Speck rightly didn't call BI.  As for it the other one was or wasn't, I didn't see it live so I'm not going to arm chair quarterback.  But in game 7 Speck was right on it, and didn't take crap from anyone when they wanted it.
