Little League Substitution - I shock myself sometimes

with what I don't know. Most of the Little League games that I do are at leagues that dont really adhere to all little league rules . I don't do district games and I have never really paid attention to substituting - most teams bat everyone or subs are handled between coaches. I just learned yesterday that a LL starter can re-enter in a different spot in the line-up (provided is relacement has batted once). I would have bet the house against that! Very humbling

Actually he can re-enter anywhere if HIS sub has batted once AND played 6 consecutive defensive outs.

Batting everyone is a legal option under regular season Little League rules.

Red Alert!!!!!!!!!!!

As the umpire of the game, if you do not ensure Little League rules are enforced, you may be liable should not enforcing that rule be a source of injury to anyone.

Make sure you know the rules and that they are adhered to, especially safety rules.

Ensure you have a copy of the WRITTEN League rules that deviate from any LL Rules.

Just make sure you are not hanging yourself out there.

Most important question at Plate Meeting for a LL game.

"Are all your players Legally and Properly equipped in accordance with LL Rules"?

Anything other than a verbal "YES" is unacceptable.

 

Regardless of any level ball, get into the habit of always being involved with substitutions and knowing the rules for such regardless of the rules being used by any league.

Will save you some problems in the future.

Our league has adopted a MANDATORY RULE of batting the whole lineup....

While that makes life easy for all my new Junior Umpires, they don't ever get to learn the reality of dealing with the "Card".

So many people are a fan of CBO, but it doesn't help umpires learn to manage subs and it doesn't help managers come tourney time.

The green book got it right the first time. Minors (11u) use CBO and Majors+ use subs by default.
