ok, we've had enough fun with my OBS question now lets get back to my test... bottom of last, tie game, bases loaded. B4 HBP. does the game end when R3 touches home and BR touches 1st or when all runners have touched their forced to base? It's not that I don't want to look it up but I've been reading the rules/case book for the last 3 days and am still not sure. this is FED by the way. Thanks, 1

an hour and a half and not even a view... must be 5 o'clock somewhere.

I viewed it just don't know the answer. Great post. Looking forward to hearing from others. Its probably a simple answer. Wish I had my books with me.

In Fed, all runners must touch their advance base if forced. If they don't, you may have a possible appeal. A force out. No run scored. Play extra innings. In OBR, the BR must touch 1st and R3 must touch home. R1 and R2 can celebrate.

From the BRD:

32 - AWARDS TO: RUNNER: FORCED TO ADVANCE FOLLOWING: BASE ON BALLS

FED: Even in a game-ending situation, as on a walk to a batter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the last inning of a tied game, all runners forced to advance on an award must advance and touch the next base or be liable to appeal (8-2-1; 9-1-1 Nt 2)

NCAA: Same as FED (8-1a)

OBR: In such a game-ending situation, only the runner from third and the batter-runner are required to touch the next base (4.09b)

with less than 2 outs I have game over. With 2 outs I'm getting off the field before it can be appealed Spit_20Laugh.gif

In FED, properly appealed, you could get two outs if both R1 and R2 didn't advance.

I'm slow on the draw this morning. Also, I'm on the left coast and we don't wake up til noon.

Rule 9

SECTION 1 HOW A TEAM SCORES

ART. 1 . . . A runner scores one run each time he legally advances to and

touches first, second, third and then home plate before there are three outs to

end the inning.

EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home plate during action in

which the third out is made as follows:

a. by the batter-runner before he touches first base; or

b. by another runner being forced out; or

c. by a preceding runner who is declared out upon appeal because he failed to touch

one of the bases or left a base too soon on a caught fly ball; or

d. when a third out is declared during a play resulting from a valid defensive appeal,

which results in a force out (this out takes precedence if enforcement of it would

negate a score); or

e. when there is more than one out declared by the umpire which terminates the half

inning, the defensive team may select the out which is to its advantage as in 2-20-

2. Credit the putout to the nearest designated baseman.

EXAMPLE: If second base is involved, credit the second baseman with the putout.

NOTES:

1. If a fielder illegally obstructs a runner and is responsible for failure of that runner to

reach home plate, the umpire has authority to award home plate to that runner.

2. When the winning run is scored in the last half inning of a regulation game, or in the

last half of an extra inning, as the result of a base on balls, hit batter or any other play

with the bases loaded which forces the runner on third base to advance, the umpire shall

not declare the game over until all runners have advanced to the next base.

There's a section 9 in the rule book?? :WTF

The OP was a FED question.

My citation was from the NFHS book.

I know it was SDIX. Humor and slight sarcasm never transfers well to forums.

(I've never read past section 8)

I call it the literalnet.

I had my sarcasm surgically removed after umpiring my first game.
