I have a co worker who wants to sell a West Vest Platinum Chest Protector for $80. He says it is in real good shape. Is this a good deal? I have a Hong's K1 now, want to upgrade to a West for more protection

That is cheaper than most used ones go for on eBay. Really depends on the amount of rust and wear. But $80 sounds like a great deal if it really is in good shape

From what I've seen, that'a a good price. Most used WV Platinum's I've seen go for $140 and above. If it's in good condition,I'd grab it!

Its $144 new at Ump-Attire and Im sure a new one can be found for cheaper at other online sites. Thats nuts.

I did a quick internet search and found the WV Platinum at HQsports for $139 with free shipping. That's a good deal. It is also a $60 dollar difference. If the used one is in good shape, you will get many years of use from it with proper care. If money is tight, go used. If money is not tight go used and buy something else with the $60. Advice from an old cheapskate.

Epic Sports sells cheaper because they do not stock anything. They have no inventory and little overhead. When you order they place an order with the manufacturer then when they get it then they send it to you. If you order from them be potentially prepared for a wait. I have heard stories of 3+ weeks. They also have a fairly restrictive return police. As Greg Brady learned many years ago "cavet emptor". Good luck.

I bought my platinum from ump-Attire. First off, I put aside the cash for this purchase so it was not an issue. Most importantly, Jim Kirk stands by everything. He is the LL Bean of umpire equipment. It for me was the best $140 I ever spent. But if you maintain your gear, $80 is a great price if its in serviceable condition. Best of luck. Balls and strikes baby!!
