I only have questions. The TV angle doesn't help me at all, but I can't imagine anyone else having a better read on this. The BU is looking at the base. I guess the 3rdBU could have seen it.

But it seems the umps are meeting more often to discuss what they see and making calls accordingly. As been said before, this might be needed to avoid Instant Replay rules being forced down our throats.

It may be to fend off the IR gorilla but it is a horrible trend. There is no other umpire that has look at that and that is what the manager should be told. If that was the only camera angle then IR wouldn't have helped either.

I believe U1 was looking at the feet and missed the tag attempt all together. My guess would be the manager came out and mentioned the tag and U1 admitted not seeing a tag attempt and was then somewhat obligated to go for help.

Don't know why he was walking to get closer for that play. He was moving and too close.

Agreed. He seemed to be anticipating an easy play which blew up on him. He isn't set and is WAY too close - he lost the bigger picture. He clearly was only looking at feet and he even showed the "off the bag" mechanic. I think U1 agreed to ask for help because it didn't occur to him that a tag attempt was being made. I guess he could have eaten the call, but that's hard to do when it's obvious that he never even saw the tag.

Too many moving parts for where U1 is set up, basically straightlined on that tag attempt and too close to see upper body & foot on base at the same time; was gambling on feet and missed out on the other part of the play.
