There are two adults in the dugout. Unless it's a team that uses a kid for a base coach (not likely) they're violating the "how many can be there" rule.

The players helmets are different colors. What a dorky group.

Funny - I rate credibility on their ability to umpire - not on how they look. Looking good only lasts until the first pitch.

And I suspect the fans will expect more from a well dressed ump and get on your case much sooner and more often.

how would you rate an NCAA ump dressed this way? MiLB? MLB? High dollar tournament? Hell, LLWS? They'd lose points as soon as they walk on the field, and hafta battle out of a hole to gain respect. LOOK the part is the 1st step. This cat is probably a volunteer.

I've been involved in and watched enough games in my 67.9 years to know that the true measure is how he umpires, not how hew looks.

I stole my "first pitch" line from CC who had a very similar quote from an NCAA coach in one of his articles a few years back.

I think there have been enough "bad call" stories here and on other boards to support a position that not all umpires are at the right end of the bell curve.

And get off the volunteer stump. I've seen really good volunteers and seen perfectly derssed association umpires that suck.

At the end of the game it's how you umpired - not how you looked coming onto the field.

Would you honestly not prefer a good ump to look professional? Why do they bother with a dress code at LLWS if it doesn't matter? How come there's an eval on "Dress and Appearance?" Umpires should dress in a manner befitting of the profession. This guy may be a jam ump, rules quoting, mechanically solid as anyone can be. He looks retarded. Shorts, grey hat turned backward, cp outside. Looks more like a men's league F2 than HPU. If you were to choose umps for a game without knowing anything about their training, knowledge, or experience and your options were this cat or a guy in polywools, dalco, NB plate shoes all shined up, wilson pro gear, 2 matching ball bags, etc. which would you gravitate to? Honestly?

Well, who knows the real story here? This could be the "standard and acceptable" uniform for this league. Or this could be a case where one of the managers said "sorry parents, no game today because we dont have an umpire." Which causes one of the dads to get out of his lawn chair and say, "what the hell, I'll do it," and ends up wearing whatever they give him. Who knows?

Trout - let it go my brother. He argues just to be contrary. Umpires are aware that looking professional when stepping on the field is extremely important.

So what? Little League tournament umpires are (or should be) all volunteer. I just worked my 21st LL tournament game, all volunteer, and I would never dream of taking the field in anything less than what I wear for an NCAA game.

It's not that important to the managers/coaches. You need to comprehend this.
