Help with Cliff Keen/Gerry Davis Shirt sizing.

One of my associations is switching uniforms this upcoming year and is requiring all umpires to get Black and Pro Blue. The brand is Cliff Keen (Gerry Davis Signature Series). I am not familiar with the sizing of this brand, and all of the stores around here do not carry the brand. I typically wear Honig’s shirts in Size XL. I am looking at getting either XL or L in the Cliff Keen. I don’t want to get a shirt that is to tight or to small so I need you guys help.

I am asking for anyone that owns a cliff keen or Gerry Davis Signature shirt in size XL or L to take a measurement from arm pit to arm pit and post your measurement and size here. I am only looking for the signature series model and not the MXS model. Please do not post sizes of the MXS brand cliff keen shirt. See the image below for an example of how to measure. Also let me know in your post how old your shirt is and if it has shrunken in any way.

Love my Davis shirts....during spring ball that is. I don't wear them once we clear May. THEY ARE HOT. Sizing is consistant. I wear xxl and have three of them all the same size. I can't say the same about the Honigs shirts I own...I have a cream that feels more like a xxxl and a Polo Blue that feels like an xl. Both shirts were ordered at the same time...

Looks like the XL are 25" across. You can view pictures to check and/or adjust yourself (notice the tape starts at the 1" mark). This shirt has only been worn once or twice, and washed about 5 times. I also have a Navy Blue I've worn a lot over the past two years, and it measures the same:

Yes this is a good start but most Manufactures use this as a "spec" limit for their shirts. For example, Cliff Keen says there large shirts fit in the range of 42-44 chest size. Dalco also uses this same "spec" for their Large shirts. The difference is, Cliff Keen (using the MXS shirt I have as a guide) uses the lower spec of this size specification and Dalco uses the upper spec. So chances are that a size large for Dalco will fit "bigger" than a Cliff Keen Large.

Since shirts from two different manufactures never fit the same, the best measurement to use is the chest measurement (armpit to armpit) That way if you have a shirt that you like regardless of the brand you can take the measurements and match up the measurements to a shirt in the brand you need to buy.

My favorite fitting shirt is a "Made in the USA" Honigs brand SH*# that is a size XL. Most know Honigs shirts run small so I took a measurement across the armpits. It came out to be 25". So I will be looking for the Cliff Keen shirt that comes closest to this measurement. The Measurements of the Cliff Keen MXS shirt came out to be 25" so I am hoping the Gerry Davis Cliff Keen version measures the same.

I found a local shop that has Cliff Keen Shirts in stock. So I was able to try on a few shirts with my Chest protector which is a Douglas. What I found is that the Size: Large shirts measure across the chest at 25" and the XL shirts measure 26.5 across the chest. I measured across a few different shirts to make sure the sizing is consistent. What is interesting is that yawetag's XL shirts also measure size 25". So I guess they have inconsistent sizing like honigs shirts.

So I will hold my breath and order larges. Out of the 6 different shirts I tried on the 3 large shirts fit better than the 3 XL shirts.

Why not just purchase the ones that fit from your local shop? I wish I had a local shop that stocked umpire apparel!

I wish I could but this is for my college association. These shirts have to have uniform numbers and association logo embroidered on the pocket. Gerry davis is the only place that we can purchase them from.
