Ok guys 18 u LL Big League game. Using Obr rule set with malicious contact . R 1 and R3 2 out

Batter hits a pop up in fair territory to the f3 and the runner from 1st starts telling as he slowly jogs to 2nd , and of course the f3 drops the pop up.

What do you have?

Is R3 the tieing or the winning run? It makes a difference lol.

Seriously Im assuming your asking because the yelling caused or at least contributed to the drop. In that case get the out and let the teammates deal with the stupid player.

LL has it's own rules - they should be using them.

OBR has no verbal interference in its rules.

Thanks guys I know Fed rules have verbal interference , but I also know OBR has no verbal interference . I had nothing and play continued . Only one who was upset about it was the pitcher

." sorry for your luck I have nothing . "

OBR does has verbal interference in its rules its just not interpreted they way we think it should be. in LL, if a kid stood on the base next to F3 while he was in the act of catching a pop up and the runner said "booo" really loud and the 1st baseman dropped it you wouldnt have int? I would.

LL 2.00 and 7.09

Offensive interference is an act by the team at bat which

interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses any

fielder attempting to make a play. If the umpire declares the

batter, batter-runner or a runner out for interference, all

other runners shall return to the last base that was, in the

judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the

interference, unless other wise provided by these rules.

and if no one likes that - Rule 9.

I think I could have called the out and not much would have been said . I wanted to call something but I let it play out and wrestled with my inner demons on OBR v FED rules .

But just to clarify , these players were all varsity high school baseball players . The runner started yelling as he slowly jogged to 1 st , and no one said anything after the play , except the pitcher . In my opinion to try to distract f3 . In hindshoulda I should have called interference and reset the runners.

Btw it was bottom 7 HT down 3-1

7.08(b ) LL RIM Instructor's Comment: Interference can be verbal or visual

I don't think they mean that at the Big League level. At what point do you expect a player to ignore verbals?

Where?

Lack of it is why A-Rod wasn't called out for verbally distracting a fielder a few years back.

I remember that play. A-Fraud was R2. Pop up to F6. As R2 trotted by, he said "I got it. I got it" to F6. The ball was kinda between F6 and F5, so thinking F5 was calling him off, F6 back off and the ball landed untouched. It was total horses**t by A-Roid. I was watching that game when it happened.

Sorry I should have clarified it prior to A Roids play it specifically said Verbal, that was changed after ,

I believe you are incorrect. In both the JEA and a rules copy I have from 2004 the wording is the same as it is today.

thnaks rich - there was a write up someone in the NYC area that discussed the whole thing, I can't freaking find it for the life of me, but specifically remember them mentioning that, maybe its just Yankee love gone to far again. my oldest book is from 2009 and my old JR manual is in someone elses hands at the moment.
