my local association supplied me with 2 new shirts , i have no prior experience with cliff keen . these have a label down near the bottom that has a gerry davis signature and say" cliff keen athletic signature series " . is this model of shirt different , than say a regular cliff keen , or just some clever marketing by GD . any comments good/bad about the cliff keen brand ? btw they were free from assoc. hard to argue free .

According to Gerry Davis, the Signature Series line is "the perfect blend of quality and price."

So far I haven't heard anything bad about these shirts.

They are made of a material that is too thick for warm weather, and has a shiny appearance. Also the finish tailoring is a little shoddy.

And absolutely nothing Gerry Davis sells is a blend of quality and price. In fact the only word that they use that blends with price is "high."

Cliff Keen always made good sturdy uniforms..( read thick as per Kevin) ..some of my best Umpire pants were Cliff Keen. And I still wear one of my Cliff Keen jerseys as it has held up very well......

I have three (2SS 1LS)of their shirts and love them....during High School season that is! They are thick! But for cooler weather during HS ball that is exactly what I want. Fit and finish seem to be very solid...not sure what issues Kevin has had. Once we get to summer season they are in the closet for the duration..or at least fall ball when the days start to cool.

I have a set of the Gerry Davis Signature Series Cliff Keen shirts (2 Navy, 1 Pro-Blue, 1 Cream, 1 Black). Like everyone else says, they are thicker than other brands, but they look good. The Pro-Blue will match a Smitty pro-blue and not a Honig's or Majestic.

I have had zero quality problems with them. They wash well and look really good on the field. I have not noticed them being shinny like Finn mentioned.

For the summer they are hot, that is when I wear my smitty's shirts.

First of all, I said they were shiny, not shinny. They're just cheap-looking.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, they're undersized. If you order these things rather than the better-priced and better-made Smitty or one of the premium brands, be sure that you order at least one size larger. They run over a full size small.

Sorry for the typo...I actually googled Shinny and saw that it is a word, but not related to our topic.

You are correct they do run a bit smaller than the Smitty shirts, but in my experience they are not as small as the last batch of Honig's that I ordered.

I wear Smitty XXL on bases and plate, Cliff Keen XXL on bases and plate, but a Honig's XXL would not fit over my Gold, so I had to go XXXL.

I personally do not think the Cliff Keen shirts look cheap. I actually think they look better than a lot of the thinner shirts on the market (Honig's, Smitty, OC, etc...). But we are each entitled to our own opinion.

Marc, I took a look at the tent-sized XXL shirt that Gerry Davis sent me hanging in my closet (I wear an XL). In 2009 I rated this shirt #3 behind the Ump-Attire and the Smitty, and ahead of the Honig's. Both Cliff Keen made shirts performed poorly in the review's breathability test, but it is very good at resisting wrinkles.

I took another look at the stiching and it all looks good on my GD shirt. Although quality control may vary from year to year, the shirt GD provided for the review is very substantial and well made. The GD I have is navy blue and the polyester is a little "shiny," although I have not noticed GD shirts "shining" on the field.

I think the Smitty and Ump-Attire shirts are better overall shirts, but my opinion is that the GD is an excellent choice for cooler weather wear since it is made from a heavier material that does not breathe well. Perfect for working Alaskan Baseball League games in June, but not the ideal shirt for July games in the Gulf Coast League. Hope that helps.

thanks for all the input , they were freebies . my other choice was oc , which are very thin and many not so good comments have been posted about the oc shirts . i agree the material is very thick , and the sizing is very undersized as mentioned . i took an xxl for bases and xxxl for plate . normally this is not what i would wear . even the xxxl still looks a little snug for plate . i need to try it on this weekend with my cp .
