kid swings the bat REALLY late - kind of chops at the ball after in the catchers mitt - and hits the mitt with the ball already in it.

Jeff,

Nope, only FED. In OBR and NCAA it's (properly) referred to as catcher's interference.

Don't shoot me, but I think this is one that FED got right.

At least this is how I keep from calling "Interference" on F3.

From the OBR Rule 2.0 definition of interference:

( b ) Defensive interference is an act by a fielder that hinders or prevents a batter

from hitting a pitch.

Most commonly the catcher and most commonly referred to as catcher's interference or CI.

Is that the same rulebook that says, "On any interference the ball is dead"? :fuel:

I understand the definition and the rule. I merely meant that of all the FED changes, this one actually makes sense, to me anyway.

So what happens when the batter hits the catcher's helmet on his swing? :fuel:

If the swing is that late I would have to see some kind of intent on F2's part to really interfere with something, and it would have to be big time obvious.

Did F2 interfere with the batters attempt to hit the ball? That's the million dollar question, and if the ball is already past him (in the glove) it's gonna be a big time stretch to get to CI.
