Three in five and a half hours? Yes I did it and my knees regret it.

Had a double header on Saturday starting at two O'Clock, 0r so I thought. I was on my way to the field and was going to be there at about 1:15. Plenty time I thought, until my phone rings at 1:05. "Hi, Pat. This is Joe over here at the Vianney High School." As soon as he said this I knew either A. The games got called(The first games was a loser bracket game for a high school showcase that brings teams from all over the state so I know they wanted to get home) or B my first games was moved up and no one told me. It was B. The game was to start at 12:45 and my assignor assured him we knew that, well we didn't. I arrived at 1:15 and call my partner, who had just a double header about an hour away from where we had our games. He tells me he is about 15 minutes away, so best case we are looking at starting at 1:30. I call Joe and tell him I'm suiting up and as soon as my BU gets here we will start. He wants to know if I will start without my BU because we are behind? I tell him sure knowing dang well there is no way I'm starting without him. Luckly my partner shows up before I'm ready and we are playing. As we get done with the first game Joe comes up to me and says he will be back for the third game. Third game? Yeah, that is what we moved the games up so we can have a third one, can you stay? Sure I can. thinking my wife is going to kill me. Well my partner has to leave, so Joe gets on the phone to the assignor that we are short one. Second game goes off without a problem and I see my partner for the third. We have an un written rule in our Association, if you are coming to do a game that your partner has already been at, you got plate. Well he tells me "I don't have my stuff." Well he was on his way to a SR Legion game so I knew dang well he did but he just didn't want to get strapped up. So I went ahead and got it. Basically, started the games at 1:30 and was in my care at 7:03 heading home. Had a double header the next morning and my knees where killing me. Pain in the butt day.

Never had the situation, but I would wait, depending on how late he's going to be. If he's going to be more than 10 minutes late, I'll probably take the field to get the game started. Anything less and I'll wait.

The closest I got was when my partner (who was going to do the plate) was running late. He called and said he'd be there right at game time. I offered to take the plate; by the time I was done dressing, he pulled up -- 5 minutes before game time. We were "late" to the field, but a lot earlier than if I'd stuck to the bases.

I believe in all rules is stated that a game shall have at least ONE ump.

I will start all game I can on the time it has been planned in order NOT to have the schedule be shifted because of no apearance of an ump. Whether he will be late or there is no show, I will start the game. The only thing I will inform the coaches of in advance is, to remember that 1 pair of eyes can not see as much as 2 and to behave in order not to effect my vision or decision(s).

I will be positioning myself behind F1 as I do not have my complete outfit yet.

And whenever my partner feel likes coming to the game, he will be entering the game at the end of an inning, at plate. If he appears after the 2nd inning has been played, he damn will have a very good reason for being so late, and if there are only 2 innings remaining for the game to end he most probably will no need to enter the game anymore.

I will address the issue of being late later on in the umpiresroom and if this happens more than twice, I will request my asignor not to put me with such an irresponsible umpire anymore.

I have a few rules I follow for the game:

I ALWAYS will be at least 0,5 hour before the games starts at the stadium

I ALWAYS call in whenever I will be late to BOTH my partner as my asignor, therefore they are always aware at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the game that I will not be reaching at time.

I ALWAYS appologise when I arrive late, even after I have called in for late appearance already.

I ALWAYS stay after game to chat and reassoning with my fellow umpires who were at the game watching. And eventhough almost all of my fellow umps drinks alcohol, they always serve soda -to me- when I'm in the group hahahaha.

I believe each umpire should be treated with respect. It can not be possible that when a coach asks me for the UIC that I am being obligated to answer I DON'T KNOW. If we as umpire starts to treat each other without respect, the coaches and later on the players will start desrespect us as umpires. and I will never contribute to that.

Had a no-show partner 1 time. We'd done all the right things called and confirmed before etc...

I get to the field extra early b/c it was my first time there.

30 min till nothing

20 min till I'm dressing for the plate and leaving messages for him

15 min till Left 1st message with my commish

10 min till left message w/ commish I'm going out solo.

This was a 9y/o AAU tournament and the parents and coaches were being the typical AAU parents/coaches (Always Angry or Upset)

They were eating me alive. I was only in my second year and had little field presense, poor game management and didn't eject anybody for anything. Mid way through the game another umpire shows up, not my originally scheduled partner. He was a college level guy who just happened to live close by. I'd just had a play at the plate resulting in an arguement.

As the coach is leaving me, he hones in on my partner who had just stepped on the field and had something smart to say along the lines of 'About time you showed up, because thay guy there is horrible and needs all the help he can get.'

They went back and forth for a minute, then my partner let him go. He hadn't seen even one pitch and already tossed a coach, gotta love it. But I will say after that and for the next 3 games we didn't have any problems from the fans or coaches.

In high school, my state mandates at least TWO umpires for Varsity-level or higher. If we find out our partner is not coming, or he's not there within 15 minutes of the game starting, we call the assignor, who will get someone else there. We can start games with one, but if it's only a few minutes, I'll wait.

Ok, I see.. than it would be normal for you guys to wait for your partner to arrive.

The rules we play by here on the island allows us to practice the game with only 1 umpire. However, most of the time in LL, BL, A we are planned to be 2 for the game and in AA we are being schedules for a 3-man system. In the play-offs however it all becomes 4 or 6.
