Received my first high school post season assignment since moving to the Pacific Northwest. I was worried that I wasnt going to get enough games in due to being rained out for the first three weeks of the six week season but the last three weeks have been much better, weather wise. Strange thing is that I dont feel like the season should be ending so soon. (due to my rainouts) but it is and I am happy about it.

Now hopefully I will get more than just the one assignment. Will see.

(that and just got word today that I will be getting Lasic done on my eyes come Memorial Weekend. No more glasses, no more contact lenses!!!! :yippie::givebeer: )

Speaking of Lasik,

I've thought about getting it for my left eye. Is that common? My right eye is 20/20, but my left eye isn't.

What are your thoughts? Anybody who's had this procedure done, I welcome your comments.

Best thing I ever did, well worth the investment. Pay the extra for custom or wavefront LASIK.

We are getting the wavefront LASIK the saturday of Memorial Weekend. It is the same company that is the official provider of LASIK to the Vancouver Canucks hockey team. I guess they just opened a location just north of me in Vancouver, WA and for some reason did a Groupon. We have been talking about it for a while and decided that 1/2 off isnt a bad thing.

As for playoffs. My warm up game today got rained out about 3 hrs before game time so now I have to take a sub par effort on my part (IMO) V/JV DH and a pretty good showing in a Var DH this past week into my plate game with two guys that have 15+ years of varsity HS ball under their belt tomorrow for my one playoff game this year.

First playoff game got moved to tomorrow at 4 due to some rain that came through.

Game that did happen:

#4 vs. #5. without 25 minute rain delay game only went 1:30. 0-0 great game into bottom of 7th. Instructional chair on the plate called two separate strikes (on the same batter in two different at bats) for stepping out of the box without a proper reason (the second one happened to be strike three).

Game ends with bases loaded no outs. Pitcher gets a ground out back to him and throws home for first out. Second out came on the strike three for stepping out of the box. Then with 0-2 count batter swings at ball off the plate and in the dirt. Ball goes to backstop and

F1 forgets to cover HP. R3 crosses plate for 1-0 walk off win. Was sitting with three other umpires watching game and we were so wound up for the last game. It was awesome!!!

Looking forward my game tomorrow and will stick around for the 7pm game as well.

Seriously? That many penalty strikes? In the playoffs?

Maybe your instructional chair should've spent more time w/ his umpires during the season to insure consistent enforcement of that rule during the season vs. ruining a 0-0 playoff game trying to show everybody how many rules he knows.

What am I missing here?

Team it happened to was from north of us and not worked by our association. There were no argument from the OHC so they knew what happened and had had it called on them already this season.

It was a state POE this year. Not our fault the same kid was an idiot twice in one game (by the way, he had been warned in his first AB of the game as well about backing out). And definitely not an OOO situation.

That makes more sense then if it was a POE in your area and the other team isn't from your association's area. Thanks for the additional details.

no problem. It was an additional note to the not letting batters leave the box unless legally allowed to. We (by the state) were told to enforce pretty much to the letter. So far we have had maybe 5 or 10 of these strikes called (none as high profile as the two above). As of yet, we have not had the "double strike" allowed by the rule wish the batter leaving the box during the pitch.

Side note: I am working the plate for the early (4pm) game tomorrow. The team with the kid with the strikes called on him was the one that advanced and will be one of two teams I will have tomorrow.
