Ok, in High School we ware black hats so I got black bags because that looked good on one of my partners. In Dixie I was wearing a 1 Gary bag with a blue hat. I don't like the gray bag so I have been wearing my black bags. Thinking about it I'm wondering if I should have Blue cap & blue bags to go with my navy blue shirt w/ R/W/B trim and my lite blue shirt w/ R/W/B trim.

If you understand that let me know what you think.

Navy hats and ball bags look much better on a navy and light blue shirt than black. For all other color shirts black is the way to go.

Cap and bags should match your shoes. Good advice I got on this site a few years ago...

And shoes should always match your purse. :rose:

We wear navy hat and bag with navy, and powder blue.

This summer will be my first time with the powder blue w black colar. So ill go with black on that.

I thought it was shoes should always match your belt? Maybe im on the wrong forum again.

Well, I've worn Navy hats, shirts, and belts before, but not shoes. I don't subscribe to the hats and bags matching the shoes theory. That would make every MiLB umpire be wrong, since they wear Navy hats and bags with their black shoes.

MLB Powder Blue w/Black trim: Black hats and bags

Softball Lt. Blue with any other color trim: Navy hats and bags

Silver or Gray shirts: Black hats and Gray or Black bags

Navy shirts: Navy hats and bags

Red shirts: Don't wear them, please!

Agreed.

Also black hat/bag with cream.

And i was joking about the belt/shoe thing. Making a female remark. Polished black is all ive ever seen anyway.

Where do you get your navy Belts??

Maybe I remembered that wrong. In any case I have navy and black bags/hats, for some reason I usually wear the black...

Great guidence the only thing to add is:

Cream shirt- Black hat and bags. I hate to see someone who mixes a black hat with a navy bag or vice versa.

I don't remember where I bought the last one, but it was a 1-1/2" width Navy belt. It was years ago. Here is a particularly nice Navy belt at this custom site. I may order one when I'm ready to go back to umpiring again:

My local guidelines are as follows:

Black belt, black shoes. In general fashion sense, leather should always match. Same as if you're wearing a suit.

Navy Shirt - Navy Hat & Ball Bags

Powder Shirt - Navy Hat & Ball Bags

Red Shirt - Navy hat & ball bags

Polo Blue Shirt - Black hat & ball bags

Cream shirt - Black hat & ball bags

Black shirt - Black hat & ball bags

I'm with JM. I hate the way navy anything looks, and I have also yet to see a navy belt.

They wear black hats and black bags now since they wear black shirts.

The only time I break out navy bags is when I wear Red or White behind the stick. We don't wear Powder so I don't even own one! We wear black with navy all the time. Black hat, bags and belt. If you watch the minor league guys that is what they do as well.

My ball bags always match my belt - black.

JM

I'm with JM. Black ball bags match any shirt, and navy ball bags only match navy and h.s. powder.

I would never call for navy behind the dish, so I never have to worry about my ball bags. But if I ever do get stuck wearing navy, I'll wear black ball bags. I gave my navy ball bags away to a PONY umpire I'm mentoring. And I am down to one presentable navy cap. If---like I fear may happen today---I need to wear navy, I will always wear a navy cap, of course.

I am in the camp of wearing all black accessories regardless of shirt. I work at a PONY park where everyone wears navy. I told me new partner I wanted to wear black accessories and he wasn't having it. He said no way to wearing a black cap on the bases. So I unwrapped a new navy cap and ball bags.

For school games in OH, we can use either gray or navy. I'd say most use navy, but gray isn't by any means non-existent. Last year, I had one gray bag, the same material and color as my pants (both Smitty charcoal gray). Frankly, I liked that look - but now that I'm not unemployed and trying to get by with the bare minimum in starting up, I've gone to two navy bags.

Non-school games? Pretty much personal decision. Mine will mostly be two navy bags with powder or red, two black bags otherwise.

For HS baseball games in Missouri, we are REQUIRED to wear navy shirts and navy caps. I'm not aware of any requirements of ball bag colors, so I wear black. I hate the way navy looks...shirts, caps, ball bags, anything. Summer SLABA and Legion games we can wear whatever we want as long as we match.

If your association says so.

I have navy and black hats that I bought on the same order last year, probably have worn the black hats 5x as many times as the navy. Yet the black still looks brand new, nice deep color and the navy is already faded and looks awful although it's hardly been worn.

If I have the choice I will wear black regardless of what shirt color we are wearing. I have 2 navy bags and 2 navy hats for when it is required, but unless someone tells me I have to wear them I won't.
