Mine is for what I hope to achieve in the future of wearing black for most games as a professional umpire. 69 has been my baseball/softball number for the past few years. We shall see what the future holds after the military! :)

In my younger years I was a competitive road bicycle racer. Still like to ride from time to time. I used to use my real name on many forums but have tried to settle on this username for all forums I now join - easier at 45 years old to remember less things :)

You have trouble remembering your real name? :) :wow:

Years ago a pain in the a$$ coach was chirping (as he always does) and finally in the bottom of the seventh I pulled my mask off and said" OK Larry, that's enough". As we crossed paths after the game, he said "Don't call me Larry, you call me coach" and I responded "Don't call me blue. Call me Mr Umpire Sir".

Ok everyone ... a fun Friday post ....

Where does your screen name come from (if not totally obvious)??

Mine is funny! Back when I first started umpiring (1990) I did a tournament with my UIC at the time , and a couple others that umpired in the assoc. At the tourney it was hot, and humid, and there were t-storms in the area.

Well, having an affinity for 'weather' ...I was the guy checking the weather and pointing out the cloud formations ....and the others started poking fun at me. One thing lead to another, ...and this group of mom's were walking to a game, and my UIC says, ...."Uhmmm...Jeff,....."those are thunderheads!!

And, well, the name stuck!!!

How about you?!?

heh, I have an affinity for 'weather' as well. Majored in meteorology for a few years. So as a result people look at me funny when I pull kids of the field because of lightning. They think the storm is not going to hit or is not a threat. But I know better. But it's funny, when I know weather might happen during the game, I will often look to the sky in all directions between inning or pitching changes tallying up what I see. I COULD bring my smartphone out there, but I'm not like that.

My name, just basic. I've used that and one other since 1996 on AOL...

the color i wear (mostly) and my association number, plus it rhymes! :question1:

Anytime I act like a QB, I start with "Blue 32!" I figured you were a football fan.

As for me, my username is "gateway" written backwards. Back when I had an Apple ][gs as my first computer, my father got a game called Bard's Tale. It's an RPG dungeon game that required graphing the levels on graph paper. In the game, you set up a party, which obviously includes their names. My dad's a computer programmer, so he had characters named "Lobocs" (COBOL backwards and an "s" added) and "Tessa" (ASSET backwards).

Several years later, when I first needed a username for BBSes, I wanted to steal the idea. We had just bought a Gateway 2000 computer; I reversed Gateway and liked what I saw.

simple one for me, I live in a village named Cato, and I umpire there to, so catoblue is an easy one.

For the longest time, on every forum of any sort that I joined, I used to go by joejv4 - part of my longstanding email address, but last year I decided to use slightly more meaningful usernames - hence CatoBlue on umpire boards and I started using jonboat on fishing boards, since I do most of my fishing out of a jonboat on the small lakes in my neighborhood.

Back when Sr. was running strong I started using a "handle" to login to various places and #17 was the first available Ironhead I could get so I use it for most everything.:fuel:
