Got a couple of pick off questions

Situation is r3, r1

1. f1, fakes to third and wheels 180 degrees to first and throws wild into dead ball territory while disengaged from the rubber = 2 base award based on the fact that f1 became a fielder while disengaged r1 on awarded 3rd and r3 gains home, YN?

2. Same sit as above but f1 maintains contact with the rubber (I personally have never seen it but...)= r1 being awarded 2nd and r3 awarded home, YN?

3. f1 fakes to third, maintains contact with the rubber while wheeling 180 to first and does not throw = balk, YN?

1. I was at a clinic earlier this spring and this exact situation came up. We were told that for this situation, eventhough he doesn't have to throw, you are to consider the pitcher still in contact with the rubber, therefore 0nly one base. There was a long discussion on this one, but the final ruling we got was that it was only 2 bases if the pitcher steps directly back off the rubber.

In 1 it's two bases. The pitcher is disengaged. That's why they can fake to first when doing this move.

In one it's two bases, the long discussion came up wrong.

In two it's a balk except in Fed. In Fed it is a one base award for throwing it out of play. In three it's a balk everywhere.

What is the awards in obr on #2?

#2 the award in OBR is going to one base for the balk. I don't see any way to get two for the throwing it out.

Oops, I got #2 backwards. In FED, F1 does not need to disengage, in OBR he does. So my new answer is 2 obr=y, fed=N. In fed,I'm awarding 1 base for the throw into DBT.

#2 the award in OBR is going to one base for the balk. I don't see any way to get two for the throwing it out.

Agreed -- it's either one base for the balk or one base for throwing the ball out of play from the rubber (OBR /NCAA).

But, what if the ball was thrown wildly but remained in play and R1 advanced to third? Would you leave him there or return him to second? (Does this qualify as a "balk followed by a wild throw" much as a step-to-home-throw-to-first move does?)

I would assume you have to leave him at third. The balk doesn't specify a difference between the two.
