Game going along quite well for a Canadian High School game, until the starting pitcher for the home team comes out(here high school pitchers are only allowed to pitch 4 innings max). New pitcher proceeds to walk the first 5 on 22 pitches, none of the called balls were anywhere close. Manager then proceeds to ask for time to make a trip and minute he leaves the dugout says he wants to see me there as well. :WTF

I record the trip and head there right away. Upon arrival at the mound he proceeds to ask "Where is the strike zone, Sir?" :HS I then proceeded to say "It hasn't moved, and it is in the same place it always is." I also tell him that his trip is now over. He proceeds to ask "Is there a time limit on how long he can visit his pitcher for?":bang: My answer "Yeah, you got until I come up here to break it up and you talk about the strike zone." He follows that with "Well I am going to stay here and talk with my pitcher." :BD: I retort "No you are going to go back to the dugout and if I hear about the strike zone again you will be gone." He then starts up about the strike zone again and at this point is :FIRE:

As he leaves the diamond he proceeds to tell his assistant to go visit the pitcher . I tell the assistant that he can't without joining his buddy. He proceeds to head back to the dugout, pulls out a rule book and sits down. The catcher then tells the assistant "it's in section 8 The Pitcher, the Ump is right" :2cents:

The catcher is probably an umpire too

How ironic, I worked a 15U game yesterday where the catcher is also an Ump for a different association here in town.

I think you should have not told him

"No you are going to go back to the dugout and if I hear about the strike zone again you will be gone"

Maybe no the best choice of words to use... maybe tell him, "skip ( but i use 1stnames) we are not gonna talk about balls, and strikes any more"

that way your not threatening him, and maybe it would seem like your trying to "bait him"

I hear ya there. I was more taken a back by the comment. The pitches were basically; backstop, backstop, backstop, eyes, backstop, backstop, up around the throat, backstop ....

I had a coach do that to a buddy of mine one time. It was a JrLL city championship and of course jr is pitching and can't hit the plate for squat. The PU went out to break up the meeting. He asked if he was sticking with him. The manager says of course, he just wanted to know if he was going to call any strikes. Chuck told him it was 95 degrees and he was in full gear, did he really think he wanted to call balls.

Not the normal response but in this case, it worked.

I'm thinking that this SHOULD become the normal response - It should help rats to "get it".

There are games that I'd gladly take out my wallet and hand over my credit cards if I could buy some strikes!!!!!

I think at some point every one of us has had a game like that.
