I'm in the same boat, I started umpiring 2 years ago and started at the high school level. I wish I'd gotten into this sooner,

I don't think I'm playing catch-up I'm just learning and I feel that i have more experience, not necessairly years, than a lot of guys. This is CQI (Continuious Quality Improvement) and some guys don't look at it that way. They've been doing it forever and they don't want to learn.

I've been fortunate to see some real pitching and learn how to adjust. It's hard to go from a good varsity game with quality pitching and catching then to return to a JV game where they can't find the plate. I've started using my son's club team indoor facility with a catcher and pitching machine cranked up to 95 + to get my eye really set on tracking those pitches. I've found this really helps me adjust.

I just want to interject about the Southern California weather: The forecast for Christmas Day, according to Weather Underground:

Sunday 25

79 °F

Clear

So, I guess it looks like we'll be going with the short sleeves for those post-Christmas tournaments.

Right at this moment, in Los Angeles's West Valley, it is 79 degrees.

Not bragging, because you'd probably rather slog through snow than pay my property tax, mortgage or insurance rates. But if I were doing a game at this moment, I'd be in a short-sleeve pro blue or cream jersey--on the 29th of friggin' December!

St. Louis broke the old record yesterday by one degree. I went out today at 9:00 with a t-shirt on. Came out of the doctor's office around 11:00 and the car was warm inside. My wife actually turned the air conditioner on in the car on the way home.

P.S. It's January 5th and the record-setting temperature in Los Angeles this time was 86 degrees.

I walked the dog at 9:00 PM while wearing a T-shirt.

Took my daughter swinging yesterday when it was 55 degrees here in Minnesota.
