By myself, of course Plate umpire. There was a call over at second and called him out way off the bag. the next call ball is hit down the foul line. the player picks it up when its on chalk. I single fair ball. Coach did not like it. I told him it was on the chalk when the player pick it up. fair ball.

than a coach says "that just a make up call" Now what should i of done ingore him over that or warning. I did gave the coach a warning for it. I never ejected anyone out this year.

Last year i had 4 coach's and or managers got toss.

I have to disagree with Warren on this one.

Any player or coach who implies that you're not honest (and saying "That's a make-up call" is a perfect example) gets a one-way ticket to the parking lot.

This isn't something that should be ignored, nor should there be a warning. Coaches should never get a freebie when it comes to the umpire's integrity. After all, your integrity is EVERYTHING out there.

So long, Coach. :question1:

BTW, last spring season I had just one ejection in about 35 varsity games, and guess what - - I ejected the coach for accusing me of giving a "make-up call" to the other team.

So long, Coach. :angel4:

The reason is at the Cal Ripken minor level these coaches truly don't know and I want to give them the chance by drawing that line in the sand and dismissing the myth of make-up calls before sending them.

At higher levels, he just punched his own ticket.

I'm a tough love kind of guy. :question1:

I'm with Mike on this. Though I'd call it "tough luck", not "tough love".

Maybe we can call it the baseball equivalent of a "teachable moment".

Bye, coach. Now you know where the line is. If that isn't clear enough, then make sure you have your car keys with you next time. :angel4:

Heh - you really don't know me, do you?

Kiss your ass? No.

Kick your ass? If you have it coming to you, hell yes.;)

The important point here is that at no time should you let a coach or player call your honesty into question. Ever.

This would have been a good one to get as your first.

Definitely don't ignore, and a warning really isn't doing you, or later umpires, any good.

Put it this way: calling something a make-up call would be the same as the coach saying to you: "you're cheating!" That equals EJ.

Not goin' there. My running / chasing days are long behind me.

Hey, like you say, it's fine to have differences on how to handle these sort of situations - but I'll leave you with this:

If a coach or player insults you by questioning your honesty, and you ignore it - what does that tell him? Answer: That he must be right, and that you did indeed give a make up call, or that you were being dishonest. And I'll guarantee you that he's going to have that impression of you forevermore.

Again - when I go on the field, my integrity is all I've got, and I protect that with everything I"ve got. If a coach or player accuses me of being dishonest, then he's going to pay the price.

Agreed 100%.............one of my triggers is when a coach calls my honesty or integrity into question....

the statement "call it both ways"..........to some may be innocent enough, but to me its trying to say Im cheating.........

I am more likely to eject for this.....:kissass:
