Granted, we've had all the different camera angles to look at these two plays and can easily decypher and correctly call it...

But you have to admit, that sometimes these are, IMHO, one of, if not THE toughest call for a HPU to make...yes, our partners should chime right on with with "foul! foul!", BUT--they have to be able to see it to call it themselves..

I could see where the second play on the video would have been almost impossible for the HPU to see, BUT, should have been 'right there" for the U2 to visualize..

I still :tantrum: the MLB guys and have used them as an example to Ratcoach the mouthrunner many times whenever he is :tantrum:ranting about yet another of the faults and shortcomings of the 2 man system:banghead: by telling said rat, "Hey, the majors use a 4 man system and even THEY can't get all the angles and all the calls all the time!":shrug

So far, I have had a 100% success rate with the calming influence this has on Mr Mouthrunner...

Warren, I like your choices for banner ads on this site... especially the one by "Hair Club". :agasp_:

Ha! Google picks what ads to put up. As for me it's probably too late for hair club.

Same here - I was just enjoying the fine looking lady in the ad. :agasp_:

The home plate umpire did not even call foul ball right away on the first one. The second base umpire called it first. I believe that both of the balls were foul. I am not saying we need replay, but I think that these calls should at least open the discussion of replay. The home plate umpire missed both of those calls.

I can see how he missed the first one, the batter was way out in front of the plate so he may have assumed he was out of the box. I have a feeling the second was a FU call.

Hmmm... hadn't considered that, Mike, but it may well have merit. IMO, it wasn't nearly as close or as tough to see as the first one.

No, No, No, No....

No replay, I'm only mildly turning not necessarily for replay as we have it but lets just say less against what we have. But this is my fear of replay then we start expanding it to situations like this, then catch/no catch, then bangers on the bases, then balk, then strikes.... Next our 9 inning game takes 5 hours.

1st-I was taught as a BU to call "Time", not "Foul". It is my job to call time for the contact, but as with play here, it is PU who determines if it is foul or out of the box.

2nd-I don't know that any BU has a better view of the positioning of the batters feet at time of contact. I for one have only once called a batter out for this and it was a drag bunt from a lefty and my partner was blocked.
