I was just on UA. It looks like they are selling off all of the ultimates. They have a smaller selection than they used to. I wonder if we can expect some changes in their shirts going forward. I really think the black that I bought this year. It is a little different than the pro-blue and the long sleeve black that I had purchased previously. One thing that I would tell UA is to add a couple of inches to the tail. They seem kind of short to me.

More shirt intel.

Black Smitty XL

Blue Maestic XL.

Smitty is 2 inches wider (50 vs 52)

Majestic XL has a wide sleeve.

Smitty LARGE, has a noticeably narrower sleeve.   Also a bit shorter, although the pic does not show this very well.   I was very surprised that the Smitty XL shirts were so mush baggier in the sleeve compared to the Smitty Large.

Both the Smitty and Majestic use a very, VERY similar fabric.  The shirts are virtually identical materials wise.

This is a much different fabric than the traditional Smitty, which is much stretchier than the pro-style.

I have a black Smitty new style "MLB" shirt. Having seen the Majestic MLB shirt up close, I think Majestic's material is softer and more breathable. I did get the Smitty about a year and a half ago, so maybe they've changed their fabric since then. The Honigs version of the MLB shirt is almost identical to the Majestic.

My current favorite shirt (sit down, and brace yourself) is an Officials Choice, short sleeved black model. I think they called it the MVP, or MLB. I've had every shirt known to Man, but this particular one is like butter. I like their long sleeved ones, too.

The last batch seemed to get the sizing right, and the material is smooth, silky, and breathable. Not some odd mesh.

Now I've had bad shirts from them before, and some of there stuff has been, well, odd (Pink ball bags?), But they nailed these two garments.

Agreed.   I have this shirt as well.   It is soft and breathable and looks great.    I wish I could be confident that I will get the exact same shirt if I ordered another.   That is, if they even had the pro-style on their website.

I am pretty convinced that it will return, however will be an entirely different batch and a crapshoot as to the quality.

I am 50/50 love/despise on everything I have ordered from TheOfficialsChoice.com

VERY possible there was a materials change.

If I closed my eyes, I would not be able to feel the difference.

But you have me doubting my conviction.

Incidentally, I tried to add a Honigs shirt to my polywool order and they are freezing them until they get the CWS rosters.

I love Smitty's traditional shirts. They fit well, the material is breathable and stretchy. The MLB version I have isn't bad though. I do think the new MLB shirts look a lot sharper than the old shirts now that they've been around for a couple of years.

Interesting about the CWS. I bet everyone in college baseball goes to the new shirts soon.

Mentioned some time ago my favorite shirt, but now for my new least favorite...

I will disclose that I was not happy to be forced to buy the shirt when the state changed their uniform requirements and this is tho only shirt "licensed" by the state to carry their logo.

The Cliff Keen shirt has fallen to the bottom of my list.

Pros:

  • Light weight
  • Looks nice
  • Moisture wicking
  • Breaths well

Con --  and IMO the con outweighs all the pros:

This shirt is so susceptible to wrinkling it is hard to keep looking up to my standards.

I consider myself someone who takes damn good care of my uniforms - Always neat, clean. well pressed and looking sharp.

I keep my shirt either on a hanger in my garment bag or in one of my folding storage things ( I do not know what they are called). But these shirts will wrinkle no matter what I do and it bothers me to no end. On top of that I tried using the spray on wrinkle remover with no luck.

I can not keep these shirts separate from the rest of my gear & uniforms. I will either miss place it or forget it all together.

None of my other shirts regardless of brand are so susceptible to wrinkling. While others might think this is minor (I was bitching to a partner about this once) I feel like I'm going on a field looking sloppy.

The Officials Choice website is hilariously outdated ("WELCOME BACK FALL!" "prices good through MIDNIGHT 13 September" etc.)

I'm convinced they could be successful. If they made a military style camo shirt, they'd clean up. I've also suggest they become the Official supplier to Little League, and design a unique jersey just for them. Can you imagine the shirt sales if they came up with a good design? LL has the largest group of umpires, hands down. I've always wondered why suppliers ignore this potential goldmine market. I'm guessing that there are more LL umpires than all other combined.

I've tried working with the owner in the past. His model was to get the market flooded with cheap, off colored shirts, then jack up the price when others wanted to match (remember the weird light blue, and the really dark pants). I don't think that's worked out too well, aside from their flag shirt.

looks like Officials Choice is going downhill fast, if they aren't already there.

way outdated, plus, their stock and shirt color availability is practically nothing anymore

My favorite shirts come from +POS.  I have a black one that is their current supply/style and it is hands down my favorite to wear on the plate.  Nice long tails stay tucked in, generous cut and nice breathable fabric.

I posted a nearly identical review of this shirt. LOVE it.
