Playoff Game as Rookie

I was the only Junior ump assigned to a game beyond the end of the regular season... It is a semi final game tonight with the winner heading to the championship...

Not much compared to some of you guys, but it is pretty nice for a rookie.

Umpire Coordinator said he would have assigned me to the championship but didn't want to hear complaints from coaches and veteran umpires about my experience.

Good job, that's very nice to have a championship game. Keep up the good work and they WILL want you to do every championship. What level and ruleset is this, though?

Thanks. ... It is Little League Majors, 12u... The winner of the championship goes on to their Michigan District Tournament.... After the game a couple league officials said that even though most 16 year olds work with the younger kids in a different league before moving up, they are going to talk to the umpire coordinator about hiring me for their summer league with the 13u and 14u... Good news there too! :D

Thanks. ... It is Little League Majors, 12u... The winner of the championship goes on to their Michigan District Tournament.... The League President coaches one of the teams that played tonight, and after the game he said that even though usually he wants the younger umpires (I'm 16) to have at least a year or two experience with the younger kids before moving up, he is going to talk to the umpire coordinator about hiring me for their summer league with the 13u and 14u... Good news there too!

LL 12 year old (Majors) baseball can be very fast paced! With the size of the smaller field and the average height of 12 year old's growing year after year, the speed of the game can resemble HS or college. Especially if the and pitchers throw in the mid 70's like they do here in GA.

This site has definitely helped... Though there have not been many situations I've seen both here and on the field, there are a lot of things that I have now learned that you know will eventually happen to me... Once it does, I know what to do.

My story is a liner headed for my chest off a now-illegal bat. As I barely moved out of the way, I was already recalling a post by MST that told me exactly what to do if I got hit. "Time! BR, first base! R2, stay at 2B!". Secretly a little disappointed that I didn't get hit and get to use the mechanic.

With district LL allstars coming up soon, you should consider getting in touch with your district UIC. LL all star games typically attract the more experienced umpires from your districts LL's and they can provide you with valuable experience and connections with local umpires. Your local LL probrably hosts a all star tournament, which the district is responsible for umpires, so try to get intouch with them. These guys can help you learn and branch out to umpire different youth leagues.
