I don't like him signaling safe so early. He made the decision before BR even touched first base.

There wasn't a view down the line. The looks they had shows he either hit the base or hung his foot in the dirt. As usual, a player misses a simple thing, makes the call 100 times harder then blows up when it doesn't go his way. The announcers are so clueless it is unreal. They are all over Rob and hadn't even looked at the replay. Then they say it's good that the manager is out protecting his pitcher, which is his job, but he doesn't have to stay long enough to get tossed. He kept his player safe, fine, then go to the dugout. Once he got tossed the CC came in to rodeo him off, which is his job, and the announcers have a fit that he has no business in it, that he was at third and shouldn't be there. That is exactly where he belongs and he is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing.

The way I saw it, it looked as if F1 was trying to kick the bag as he went by because he had missed it initially. The way he looked up at Drake, he knew he didn't get it. F1 argued trying to save his own hide, because he had 2 steps and the whole bag to make sure he got the out and he blew it!

I dont think he touched the bag either. If he did he wouldn't need to try to swipe it again. He was trying to argue just save his himself.

I know most commentators are bad. But these guys are horrible, how do two guys like this get a job? they know nothing of baseball and they should of been ejected too.

Which means he made the decision BEFORE he touched it. Remember, we teach umpires to SLOW DOWN. This call was (in my opinion) rushed. The safe sign was coming up as the BR was touching the bag. Good timing would have had the BR at least a step past before the signal was even started.

It's easy to see what happened. He saw F1 miss the base, and his mind thought "He missed the base. That's a safe call." Right after that, he started the motion to make it, not even mentally thinking to wait until the BR touches the base.

I live in Boston (which has nothing to do with my comment, other than i watched this as it happened) and those announcers should be embarrassed...."Yeah, Manny, get your moneys worth, stay out there". Then they cant understand why the CC intervenes? "I dont even need to see the replay...they wouldnt argue if they were wrong" HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.

Exactly. As everyone else has pointed out, these announcers are absolute idiots. I would love to take these clowns and several others to one of the umpire schools for a week so they could show us just how easy it is. I would pay to watch it. Set up some bastard plays at first and make them handle a situation or two and see how they come out.

The Crew did a good job of handling this... Rob had a great look moved into position well, i thought he missed the base too.

Agree

Food for thought: If he got the base on the first try, why did he reach back a second time in a vain attempt to try again?
