I've seen some discussion of the Estabrook type combo on the forum and want to test out some thinking on it. My motivation, of course, is to find as good protection as possible realizing that concussions will always be a risk. It appears from the forums that he is using a Rawlings Coolflo Matte Style Alpha Sized Base Coach Helmet (https://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-Coolflo-Matte-Style-Helmet/dp/B010R05ONA). I am seeking opinions on combining this with one of the Unequal inserts -- either the Solo (https://unequal.com/solo/) or Uncap HDR (https://unequal.com/uncap-hdr/) to add to the protection. Based on what I've read in the forums, I am also considering modifying my current mask to add a DeltaFlex facemask harness (https://www.all-starsports.com/fmhpro.html) to make it easier to one-hand my mask onto the helmet. Has anyone done this or something similar? I am concerned less with how this looks as how it will work. One forum mentioned that the bill of this helmet might push the mask out too far. Comments (and please no "if you are afraid to get hit maybe you should find something else to do with your time")

The question about the Carlucci chest protector material sparked the inspiration for this thread. I will start saying that I like the leather for my pads.

I use the all star helmet and lately taking shots in neck and throat area. Does anyone else use this helmet and if so what type and name brand of throat guard do you use if any.

I umpired for several years but took a few year break to play summer ball myself and getting back to the umpiring part of the game. The majority of my equipment is ok but I have a birthday coming up so am considering upgrading my equipment this fall for the coming season and wanted to get some help/advice/opinions on masks. I have used an old hockey-style mask this summer. However, this mask was a used one i bought off a friend and it is starting to fall apart. So I feel it is time to upgrade. I am not opposed to the traditional mask...just used the hockey style mask since I could get it cheap to get through this summer. I am hoping to keep the mask/helmet under $125 or so and would be open to suggested combinations not just straight "out of the box" setups. Any suggestions would be great and I hope to meet you all soon.

All-Stars MVP 4000 Umpire This is the greatest in Umpire Protection. This has been worn only a handful of games. I have Umpired for several years and always worn a tradition mask. Tried this MVP4000 and I like the visibility and protection it gives but just don't like having my whole head covered. The Pads are removable for washing. Many Catchers also wear this helmet as it offer top of the line protection. This is really a great deal for an Umpire or a Catcher. Feel free to ask any questions! Bought it from another Umpire that umpired for a season and then stopped Umpiring. I only wore it for 2 games. Like New! MVP4000 Umpire Helmet
