  1. welcome critter i am originaly from the baustan area and am also a huge sox fan. now, i am in southern california and get a lot of crap when i support my bostonian teams. fenway is the greatest park in the world. such a great atmosphere. waaay to many angels, dodgers, lakers, and chargers fans out here in cal... go boston :question1:
  2. alright...so critter, once your partner ejected the coach, did he bring him back into the game? from your OP, that's what it sounded like...
  3. Are you saying that the PU, after ejecting the coach, let him back into the game ? He should have kept his ejection, and that is by rule. I'm pretty sure Cal Ripken plays by OBR, so here is the rule: "If a manager, coach, player, or spectator is ejected from a game, they shall take no further part in that game. They may not sit in the stands and may not be recalled. They shall immediately leave the vicinity of the field." Let me know if I'm misreading your post and gathering another situation then is presented. This is very strange. As for the other parts of the post, once your partner gave a warning "coach, we are not going to be discussing judgement calls" and the coach comes out again, he's gone. you or your partner set the line, and he crossed it. make sure though if a coach does come out to let him get what he needs off his chest. dont right away tell him, "its a judgement call, its not up for discussion". ask the coach, "what did you see coach?" he tells you what he saw, he gets it off he chest, you tell him, "coach i got a very good look at that and here's what happened: blah blah blah" then thats it. end of discussion. as for your partner saying, "if you get any closer, your gone", not too smart wording. "coach get back to your dugout" will do. if he comes to you and argues on a judgement call again, after your partner told him no more (such as after every single call you made), he is not listening to what you and your partner set as the rules and he needs to be gone.
  4. It has indeed. Tim Welke got hit in the mask on Monday, stayed in for a couple innings, then came out. On the same crew the next day, Welke was not working. Chad Fairchild had the dish and got drilled in the arm. His arm swelled up the rest of the game and the next game, he had a sleeve on his arm. Tough job...:question1:
  5. Matt Vasgersian has previously bashed umpire Bruce Dreckman when he was a San Diego Padres announcer. I located the video on youtube, however, it has been removed. The reason straight from youtube: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by MLB Advanced Media". Um, I wonder why... Reynolds: got fired from ESPN for somewhat of a sex scandle. Not sure about the other guy... I do not like or respect Vasgersian at all...he was no buisness bashing any umpire. If anyone can located the Matt Vasgersian trashing Bruce Dreckman, post it because it was pathetic. Just unbelievable...
  6. That's crazy...wow
  7. When I log in and the page comes up that says, "if it does not refresh you to the page, click here...", I am then redirected to the home page, and in some of my cases, I will not be logged in. I then click on "umpire forum" or "reviews" and then in the top right corner it says "welcome frenchblue".
  8. Great
  9. lol That would be hilarius...:TD:
  10. I was watching the game live and just waiting (and cringing) that Eck wouldn't go there....glad he didn't (I have a feeling NESN was yelling at him through his head phones to naugh it off and telling him he was dead wrong). Johnson did have a tight stike zone, but it was constitent each way. I hate all the K-zone related gadgets. They don't give an accurate zone at all... Anouncers... Matt French frenchblue
  11. I know this is a very late post, but here is the link to buy a MLB hat (cap): http://www.cowboyjoewest.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CJW&Product_Code=MLU_Cap&Category_Code=WA Once again, you have probably already purchased the MBUA hat, but for anyone else on umpire-empire, here is the link. 12. It's Dennis Eckersley. He hates umpires and has even said it on the air. I know Eck was filling in as a color broadcaster, but he shouldn't be a problem anymore because Jerry Remy, the real color broadcaster, came back last night. Notice that the play by play broadcaster isn't saying anything. Don Orsillo probably wished they were on commersial break. Eck has no clue what he is talking about and Orsillo wanted to stay out. He knew he couldn't real Eck back in because Eck was too far off course. Maybe it's too much to ask, but can broadcasters (yes I'm talking to you He-who-shall-not-be-named) someday speak the truth? I know the answer to that, but maybe one day.... Matt French frenchblue
  13. nate, i would love to see a prototype. if you can customize some gear and do so while not compromizing the protection level of the WV gold or platinum, well that would almost definently get my sale (of course for a resonable price). Keep me posted...thanks. Matt French frenchblue
  14. I know that some of the veteran umpires do not like to ask for help if it is a RHH and the BU is in the C position... I know Hollywood is a verteran umpire and that is why he may not like to ask for help, but I'm pretty sure Bill Carter (Western Region UIC) is teaching to ask for help whenever and wherever the BU is positioned... Matt French
  15. Nolan, that's not what they taught at Region. If the catcher asks the UIC for an appeal, no matter where the BU is on the field, the UIC can ask for help. Like BT_Blue said, if the BU agrees with the UIC, then alright. If the BU says its a stike, the game moves faster. Region says that anywhere on the field the BU is, the UIC can ask for help.... Matt French
  16. The only Little League (12 year olds) regional that does have the umpires hold on to the lineups is Western Region. Bill Carter makes sure of that....
  17. Basically (i have done the same sectional-CA District 46-Little League 12 year olds) the UIC was just running the 3 X 5 card from one dugout, stopping at the scorekeeper & TD to report it to them, then running over to the other dugout and giving them the 3 X 5 card. This was the craziest thing i've ever seen in regards to lineups.
  18. My words completly. If you carry a rulebook on the field, it opens the door to so many things a coach can say if he comes out to "discuss" a call..."why dontcha check in your rulebook blue" it is also a manner of professionalism. it makes it look like you dont know the rules if you need a rulebook on the field... so, unless your organisation requires it: thanks for the great quotes, Brian:)
  19. hands are part of the bat...wow isnt this rule next to tie goes to the runner and if the ball hits off the plate and goes fair, its foul?
  20. absolutly!!!
  21. this is very strange. baseball, the run would score. i guess in softball (what a rule, uh?) the batter is out for her teammates giving her a congradulatory slap on the back...the coach can cangradulate the batter by high fiving her rounding third, but teammates can pat her on the back? wow. and of course rick riley of espn has this story. BUT, BUT if it is a rule, then the umpire should (and did) enforce it. what a stange rule though.
  22. I agree with mstaylor. if this guy can even hear everything that the spectators say, then he is not doing his job. his job is to umpire the game, not listen to and take notes on specators. thats just very wierd. ive never heard of anything like this. this guy has very thin skin.
  23. constable, i was wondering if you eject a batter for drawing lines on you the first time it happens? what i usually do if a batter draws a line on me (and lets say the BR is a RHH) and draws a line halfway into the LHH batter's box showing me where he thought the pitch was. i polietly ask him for the bat, and draw a line halfway into the RHH batter's box, same distance from the plate as he drew his line in the other box. i give him that bat back and tell the BR "that's your stike zone now" (loud enough for the catcher to hear). then you pray the pitch is in between the lines you and the BR drew. i learned the technique from a gentlemen who has done a CWS. he could not keep guys from drawing lines on him, even after warning and ejecting. so he tried something a bit stronger and now he teaches the technique at clinics. great man frenchblue
  24. correct
  25. hey gentlemen, i was searching the WWW one day and came accross this site. what a tremendous find. i am a 15 year old umpire out of southern orange county, california. i do mostly LL baseball games for District 55 and District 68. very very good umpires out of this area. i attented JUTS (Junior Umpire Training School) in 2007 and 2008. this school is held at the Western Region complex in San Bernadino usually the first week school gets out. it is a week long school. the complex has (the new and improved cafeteria) the best food around. the complex houses the students in the same dorms the teams that play in the WR tournament stay. the students are tought by some of the finest umpires in the game. students are tought on the field (postioning) and in the classroom (rules). this school is modified into a week's form from the Jim Evan Acadamy of Professional Umpiring. after a week of this school, students will not only be much better umpires, they will have the character needed to preform such a difficult task. in the 2008 year, i was voted upon my 65 other students (ranging in ages 13-17) the umpire at the school (excluding of cource the instructors) that best exemplifies the character, dedication, and enthusiam of a Little League Umpire. For JUTS 2009, I was asked to come back as an instructor. great school and great environment for Junior Umpires looking to learn the rules and become the best umpires they can be. if anyone needs any additional information about the JUTS program, please just let me know. i look forward to replying and posting new threads, therefore helping myself become a better umpire and gaining some experience off the field thanks and look forward to talking to all of you soon! matt french frenchblue
