  1. Curve ball should be banned till High School. Too many coaches have hurt kids arms enough through excessive pitch counts and too many days pitched and not enough off. There are other breaking pitches that they can through that are just as effective and do not require any different arm motion than a normal fastball.
  2. My only issues with the 10u tourney I did this weekend was the quality of play. Though I can pretty much say that will all levels of non-varsity HS/College ball that I do. I mean if you are going to come to an all-star tournament, please bring kids that can pitch close enough to the strike zone and will swing the bats...and please stop complaining about the chanting. Its going to be a long 8+ years if you keep complaining about it.
  3. You can explain some pitching rules to him but do not ever attempt to be a coach for the kids when your umpiring. Your intentions are good but if the kid implements your advise in the wrong way and cause the kid to get hurt, you could be on the hook for a lawsuit.
  4. I am looking for a sanctioning body to recommend to the local county league to use for its summer ball leagues, age 4 to 17. Points we are looking for: 1)Cost of sanctioning 2)Insurance 3)Rules 4)Umpire Compensation.
  5. What was the announcer's reason? These are always entertaining and nearly always wrong lol.
  6. :banghead: If I were you when I got that done that call, I wouldn't of known whether to laugh or cry. :wow:
  7. A play cannot happen, usually, without the ball. If you do not know where the ball is and/or not covering your area, bad things are about to happen.
  8. Actually, for me..it would be easier to eject someone at an all-star game, guessing this is an exhibition game. Score doesn't count the next day and ejections don't count the next day, at least in OHSAA, nothing in the W-L-T column = no sitting out two games. Plus in an all-star game, whoever got ejected usually really deserves it.
  9. As I recall, I do not think there is a single mention of ejection or disqualification/restriction to the bench in the LL rule book. Though...I have thrown LL players out for malicious contact before. Anyways LMSANS is correct, no CR until the runner in question has not played the F1/F2 position.
  10. Nothing illegal about it but here is where "preventative officiating" can come into play.
  11. In HS, I am talking to the catcher first. Not a single soul in the world other than possibly the batter if he/she is close enough will ever know you said a single word unless the catcher blabs. A good catcher will move back in without another comment. If the catcher is a bit on the slow side, you might mention it to the coach in passing between innings.
  12. I think all outside sports operating under FED rules are going to "if lightning is seen, suspend play", regardless of flash-to-bang. You can be struck by lightning for miles ahead of the nearest cloud, so if you see it, suspend the game.
