Had the stick for a varsity game last night that would determine the winner of the 5A district. The winner would be the number 1 seed and the loser would end up # 3. First inning home team has a runner on third who comes home on a wild pitch that rolls up the 3rd baseline. The catcher swipe tags and misses the runner but the runner never touches the plate. Defense appeals and I get the out. Of course the home team crowd goes ape $#+ crazy. Move ahead to the Sixth and home team is up 1 to nothing. VT comes up in the sixth and scores 4 to go up 4-1. HT ties it up with 3 in the bottom half of the sixth and neather team has a base runner in the 7th so we head to extras. Of course I am hearing it from the HT crowd that we should be done. Nothing happening into the 8th or the top of the 9th. B9, leadoff walks as does the next batter. HT tries a bunt but pops it up. Next batter hits a blooper to right and the 3rd base coach sends the runner who gets hosed by 20 feet. In the meantime, BR tries to take second and is thrown out, so inning over. Top of 10th VT puts up a 5 spot and the home team goes down in order. We are on the way to our cars and I have 3 fans from the HT following us screaming that I cost them the game and that we were the worst crew they had seen all year. Of course game administration and security are no where to be seen. Got in my truck fully dressed and got the heck out of there. Went 20 minutes down the road and changed out. Just another fun night in South Mississippi!!!

I have Honigs PW that I wear for HS games. Bought the Smitty's for U trip tourneys where I am doing 10-20 games in a weekend

As Grayhawk suggested, I had zipped them down too far. I was able to get the zipper back back up and am now good to go. Will just have to remember to not zip them down to far

Any body else have problems with the zippers breaking? Have 2 pair that I got at the beginning of the season and in both pairs the zippers have broke in the last week.

For those of you who don't get paid at the plate, how long do you usually have to wait before you receive a check? Does your association tell the schools that they have to have checks mailed in a certain amount of time? Some of the schools around here are really good about getting checks out, others it may take 3 weeks to a month to get paid.

I was the PU in a varsity game yesterday. Had a runner on first and the ball is hit to F4. I go to clear the catcher and I trip over the catcher and fall flat on my face. In all my years of umpiring, this is the first time this has happened. Hopefully it will be another 20+ years or never that this happens again!!

SWMBO gave me a $500 umpire allowance today, so a new set of pooly wools, a couple new shirts, new base and plate shoes, and a Wilson bag to put it all in are on the way. Let the games begin!!

Ended up getting another playoff game tonight. Had the dish and felt like I had a good game. Heard some bitching and moaning from fans, but neither coach said anything. Both partners said I had a consistent zone. 4-3 ball game that now forces a game 3.

The rain has screwed up all schedules here in north MS. We played Thursday in the rain and Friday was rained out. I now have games Sunday and Monday. Sunday is game 2 of a 6A series and Monday is game 3 of a 5A series. We have teams playing tomorrow and Monday Also. Everybody is trying to get them in to set up their pitching for the next round

Due to rain, the game was moved to today. Had first base. Great game with no problems. Ended up 2-1 in 8 with the HT winning and taking the series 2-0.

Just opened my email to find a round 2 4-A playoff game on Arbiter for Friday night. Have to get together with my partners to see if I will be on 1st or 3rd. Pretty stoked!!!

Sorry I thought it said if he was sliding in refrence to # 3. If he comes in standing up and makes contact, then I have a violation

I believe they are all false. In question 1, if the player stops in the baseline thus altering the throw I have a violation. There does not have to be a slide to enforce the rule. Of course with question 2 if the player doesnt slide directly to the bag you have a violation. And with 3, if the defensive player is standing on or in front of the bag and there is a legal slide by the offensive player, there is no violation of the rule.

Get to my games tonight and realized I had left my bag with all my plate gear in it at the house. Luckily I was on the bases for the first game and was only about 15 minutes from the house. I usually leave my bag in the truck, but I detailed it the other day and took everything out.

Had a Varsity double header today. First game I had the stick and we went 11 full in 2:40. Ended 6-5. Second game on the bases went 8 innings in 2;20 and ended 10-9.

I am a Paramedic offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. I work a 28 day on/ 28 day off schedule. When I am home, my assignors are real good at keeping me busy.

I work offshore and my schedule is 28 days on/28 days off. I call 5-7 days a week when I am home. It does suck that I have to sit offshore for a month with no baseball games to call.

He said it was a good ejection, and if it was regular season he would send me right back. But since it is summer ball he can't do anything about the coach not wanting me back. He did give me other games so I didn't lose out, but it still pisses me off that the coaches have free reign during the summer

Summer varsity baseball. B2 BR hits slow roller to F6 who throws to F3. BR beats throw by half a step. Next batter lays down a bunt and beats it out. Now have R1 and R2 on with nobody out. Batter lays down another bunt that F1 fields and tries to get R2 at 3rd, but throws high making F5 have to jump to get the ball. F5 comes down just after R2 slides in. Coach comes out of the dugout yelling that's 2 this inning that you missed. I throw up the stop sign and tell him thats enough. He then says that's 2 you missed and I tossed him. He then goes into a tirade on how I will never work on his field again. I said that's fine. He leaves the field and we play on. I get done with the game and there is a message from my assigner that the coach called and that the next 2 DH's I am supposed to have on that field later this week, I have been pulled from. Said since it's summer ball the coach has the right to tell the assigner who he wants and doesn't want. I am Pretty Pist right now, but unfortunately this assigner is the only gig in town. So since it's summer ball coaches have free reign to be jack wagons?

Unfortunately, the schools are unable to pay $146 for two umpires for JV and below. I want work where you live!! We get $ 35 a game anything under Varsity. Granted it's an 1.5 hr time limit or 5 innings.

The Arbiter is lighting up!! I have 3 double headers the week I get home from work. I work as a medic in the oil field and work 21/21. I am eager to strap on the gear and call some baseball.
