The runners are FORCED to leave the base... it is no longer a safe haven for them. If the base is touched before they are tagged the force is removed.

So I guess every time someone squares to bunt with your partner on the plate it has to be a strike eh?
-
The same reason that players aren't ruled out of play when touching fans...

Exactly... I still call it the new complex. I played home high school games at the old one. I started my umpire career at Ballwin Athletic Association. I'm back there helping out and instructing.
-
I've never been to their new complex

Yes... any part of your person touching the base while in possession of the ball is good enough. Also... what is the difference between your foot and bare hand in this situation?

And I agree with your statement. We know for certain that we have an out here... what we don't know is if R3 touched the plate before the out was recorded. I welcome all opinions on it, but what I've always taught the youth umpires I help train is if you don't see it you can't call it. And to further that point, don't call what you think you saw, call what you know you saw. If I know I have an out but I'm unsure/didn't see R3 touch the plate before that out was recorded then I can't award the run. This is a situation that bad mechanics put these umpires in a bad spot. We have all been there, especially in the beginning of our careers where we get that sick feeling in our stomach as everyone turns to you and you aren't sure why.

Then you tell the coach that he needs to make a proper appeal for you to rule on it. You don't give him any answers until it is properly appealed or until an appeal can no longer be made. You do not rule without a proper appeal. If the coach comes up to you and says the statement you wrote your response to him should be, "Coach what are you asking me?" He will probably say something like, "Did the runner leave early?".... "Well, your team needs to properly appeal to find out." and that is the extent of your conversation with him. It is up to the defense to know how to properly appeal and remember the ball must be live for a proper appeal.

Could just go to robo umps for balls and strikes...

The coach should instruct his runners to remain on the base until they know for certain what they need to be doing. Trying to call time after every play isn't advisable as I wouldn't grant it just so the offense or defense could "shut down" everything.
-
The problem with that is now you are just using the MSU "Book" and then all hell could break loose. I would only use that if the rule set allows it.

Sounds like a whole lot of nothing to me...

On long sleeve shirts, pullovers or jackets measurement should be from your shoulder seam to the top of your flag patch or number, with the distance varying by size: Medium and Large: 4” XL & 2X: 5 1/2" 3X and up: 7”

Because when you huddle you bring in everyone. If you don't have anything to add to that conversation you just say, "I didn't have a look." It would look weird to have a meeting in the middle of the field and one guy is standing over in A.

I know that it isn't popular... but I try to call the plate... Pitch #6 here is less than 5" outside. Looking at it in a raw data form I don't think it is acceptable to call that pitch a strike.

Is there a market for multiple tiered umpiring services?
