I'd have MC on the slow motion replay under FED - there's no way that umpire saw it cleanly though with the way he was moving and with the bucket on his head.

Ok - I was just making a comment. If you want to nitpick, go ahead. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk

I was saying that putting the ball in play does not mean there is a force in effect - there are plenty of times that putting the ball in play would not force the runners to advance. Infield fly being the first that came to my mind.

It would be fun to go through that entire reddit thread and debunk or clarify all their "obscure" rules. Half of those posts I didn't even realize were seen as obscure - hell the top post is about detached player equipment. I saw that called in a Cubs game on Fox saturday baseball when I was like 10, so I fell like I've always know about it.

Perhaps there were no outs? The only explanation I can think of, barring a major FU by the umpires (more so than losing track of the outs). Anyone but the Head Coach leaving his position to argue a call is gone (or should be) immediately.

I started my umpiring days back in Wisconsin, and I've noticed a lot of members from there as well.

What age? If they're young enough to receive balk warnings, they're young enough that you can provide a balk explanation without being asked.

I've been on UE for a while now, mostly browsing and taking things in - figured I'd finally introduce myself. I'm Steven, 23, been umpiring various leagues since I was all of a 4'9" 75 lb 12 year old. Had 1 year of experience about 6 times before getting serious about it. Currently I am focused on moving into college baseball and finishing an engineering degree. I work High School spring and summer ball in Mid-Missouri. I'm here for all the rules and situations and awesome advice - keep posting them (it helps me avoid studying).

American Legion catcher collision scenario
Mizzou2016 replied to SpiveytheUmpire's question in Ask the Umpire
When MLB allowed collisions at the plate you used to see catchers lowering their shoulder to protect themselves and never actually apply a tag - it was sort of unwritten that if there was a collision and the catcher held onto the ball the runner was out. That's how I'd rule in this scenario, if I'm picturing it correctly. -
Call it when you see it - don't be anxious to call it though. On interference, if F6 stopped and there was no play happening you can slow down and process that it was actually interference. If F6 were to make a great throw and still get the BR at first it would look bad, but you could still call it. Make no signal on the play at first, then turn around and point "I have interference on number 5, runner's out, batter stays at first" You might still get a complaint wanting a DP from the defense though, especially in a 10U league where coaches aren't as knowledgeable. Edit - thought you were on bases. Don't take the call from your partner if it's right in front of him - get together after the play and make the right call.

In OBR the ball is only dead if the player goes into the stands, or falls while in DBT. If he still has his balance while in DBT, play 1 illustrates that had the catcher not dropped the ball he could have made a legal throw while in the dugout (DBT)

Would like one with a separate compartment for gear and shirts/pants. Let me know if you have a used Wilson or Diamond and condition it's in. I am looking to spend around $60

Lol no with the exception of this play the ball was pretty good - and if it had been 8U I csn almost guarantee the situation would have gotten out of hand. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk

BU called out at 2nd and that was it - called time after the BR reached 1st the second time. As an aside - we conferenced, came to the conclusion that we had 2 outs. Then the OC complains and my partner wants to conference again! I am glad it was summer ball, any other league, that situation could have gotten out of hand. The drop was very obvious. No mistaking it for being on the transfer. We definitely should've made a no catch call - I was at the plate and watching the play, glanced at the BR to see him touch first. There was a lot of confusion - neither I nor my partner made any call, the SS finally throws to second. R1 was still on first, which was what caused the BR to assume he was out. I didn't want to award the defense for missing an easy catch with a DP, but the offense didn't do anything to help themselves either. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk

18U under OBR R1 , 1 Out Humpback liner just over the pitchers head, F6 comes across the infield to make what should have been a routine catch. Drops the ball. What should have happened: Umpire signals no catch, F6 throws out R1 at 2nd, we move forward with 2 outs runner on 1st. What actually happened: BU signals nothing, SS throws to 2nd, who then throws to 1st. The BR had already touched first, but thinking the ball was caught, was already 10 steps towards the 3rd base dugout by the time R1 is thrown out at 2nd. BR goes back to first, F3 has the ball on the base waiting for a call from BU. We conferenced, called R1 out on the force, and BR out for abandoning his base. Now I think this was the right call based on 5.09(d) (2015 OBR) Wondered what everyone else thought, and who has that no catch call in the infield? BU or PU? I've recently been trying to get into umpiring college, and got a hold of a local NAIA coach, who basically said "Here's our home schedule, take whichever games you want." This is Fall ball stuff, so not regular season yet. I wondered if it would be wise to take every game I can, or if I should hold back to prevent being essentially a home team ump. I know that I am impartial, but perception is everything.

Defensive HC calls time in the middle of a rough inning for his pitcher - he comes to me accusing the offensive HC in the third base coaching box of stealing signs from the catcher - told me to enforce that the offensive head coach stay in the coaching box so he can't get an angle to steal signs from the catcher ?? I had a pretty good rapport with the Offensive coach so just went to talk to him and requested he stay in the coaching box and away from the foul line and had no further issues in the game. I checked the rule book post game, couldn't find any penalty for an offensive base coach being out of the coaches box unless he interferes with a fielder. Am I missing something?
