Umpiring starts with appearance. If you look the part then coaches will at least think you know what you are doing... until the game starts. That's where camps and clinics come into play. If you have the time, and the $500 that @MidAmUmp is giving us, go to a camp. Be it a HS, College, or Pro camp. You will learn a ton of great information and learn what your assignor or instructors are looking for. At least that is my mind set. I plan on going to 3 or 4 college camps this Fall to keep working on my skills. If I don't move up or get picked up into another conference, that's fine because I know that I will learn something to make me a better umpire for the games that I get to work the next year.

Yeah I am getting an EJ on this because the runner left his feet to initiate contact. Last night the runner was still upright when the contact happened. Did he lower his shoulder? Possibly, but in real time I think it was just a hard play

Watching the play live I didn't have MC. Now after watching the replay I could possibly get it but there were 4 umpires (U3, PU, U2, & ULF) that had good position to get it if they deemed it MC, but they didn't. I just think it was a hard baseball play i.e. train wreck

I want that job! Currently I'm an IT consultant. So basically I sit on my ass for eight hours a day talking to people who don't know how to computer. @MikeSafari I'm not going to lie, It's a great job. I do however have to deal with students who think they are God's gift to athletics but somehow they didn't get drafted or recruited to play anything higher than high school athletics (if they even played in high school).

I work at a University in the recreational sports department. I get to hire a train officials as well as schedule them. Great part about my job is I don't have to take time off to go work games because my boss sees it as "Job research". What I learn on the field I can bring back to my students to make them better at officiating.

I can work any level non-conference ball. I am just a guy trying to make the move up into a D1 conference and live my dream of getting to the CWS. I'm in a D2 conference currently.

We are in the Association of College Umpires out of Alabama. Jeff is one of our best umpires we have! This is his 2nd or 3rd time to the CWS

Jeff Head usually only wears Nike masks. As far as I know he has 3 or 4 of them and has Team Wendy pads on all of his masks

Erby is a great umpire! He is the one that gave me my start umpiring college ball. He will be missed on the field for sure! It will be fun watching him at the CWS for the last time.

I joined UE last year sometime because I truly have a passion for umpiring and I want to learn as much as I can about our avocation! I have been calling high school baseball for 6 years, 3 years in a non-conference college association, and 1 year in a D2 conference. My goal is to continue moving up in the college ranks and hopefully get the opportunity to work the CWS one day. I frequent UE often but haven't pulled the trigger on getting involved in many of the forums yet. Maybe one day I'll give my input and join in on the discussions. This is a great way to learn mechanics and anything one would ever want to know (or not want to know) about umpiring.
