Which rule or rules do you personally call by the SPIRIT (or intent) of the rule vs. the rule as it is written if there are any? If so, why? Just want some good dialogue going.

This was an ASA (softball) game NOT baseball.

So if a pitch is way inside the batters box and the batter doesn't make any movement whatsoever to avoid being hit by it, youre not going to call the HBP even though the pitch was way inside the batters box? If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and smells like a duck......call it a duck! That is exactly the kind of nit picky thing that players/coaches/fans get upset over. Remember, perception is reality.

Maybe next time just say "FOUL!"? Everyone knows its a ball, they want to know if its fair or foul.

Isnt the rulebook considered a set of "guidelines"? Its not going to cover every exact situation that can arise. In this case the only reason the batter was involved was because of the bad pitch by the pitcher and that the catcher made a "bad play" by not coming up with the ball. So why penalize the batter?

So this is the "SPIRIT" of the rule or is this the by the book rule?

Wanted a day off? In the 8th inning?

Once he engages, then the ball drops, its a balk with runners on. With nobody on base, its a different answer all together depending on the level of play.

No need to justify your calling of a "ball". It makes you sound defensive.

Perfect example why the 90 isn't the best option while taking 1-2 steps in fair territory from the "A" position is. The BU is more apt to see a potential "pulled foot" or "swipe tag" scenario.

Didn't realize what I typed was "offensive" or being taken that I was being a "dick". Just stating that those are the only times that really need to vocalize & signal "Play".

The only times when "Play" should be vocalized and pointed is to start the game & whenever there are any runners on base and after a foul or "time" has been called.

A foul ball does not necessarily make the ball dead.....i.e. when an outfielder goes into foul territory to make a catch with runners on base.

If youre going to ask for help, get the honest answer from your partner. Plain & simple.

The rulebook is not designed to cover every situation that can happen during a game. Try using some common sense. Call time. Reset. Do not penalize the pitcher for something the batter does or does not do especially 13 year olds.

I ruled NOT a timing play and no run scores. I just thought it was an interesting "situation" for others to think about. At "scrounge" - tough guy huh?

So if the runner crosses the plate, and then the batter runner gets called out for a running lane infraction on his way to first for interference, that is not a time play either? Just wanna see your answer.

With a runner on 3rd and 2 outs with 2 strikes on the batter.....the pitch comes in, its a dropped 3rd strike as the ball gets away from the catcher, the batter stands in the batters box as the runner from 3rd charges home and touches the plate. That's when the batter turns and walks towards the dugout. Upon taking 2 or 3 steps, the plate umpire declares the batter out for abandoning his right to run to 1st. Is this a timing play? Does the run count? I know how I ruled.

Wanna give me a chance to replay BEFORE you ASS U ME anything? I bet you ASS U ME a lot while trying to umpire too?

Except a 26-12 game that you make you & your partner stay over an hour longer than necessary! LOL
