BTW, the one I am talking about is the one in the replies, not in the first post of that thread. The one in the first post is a clean move. The one in the replies where F1 drops his stride leg down before stepping to 2B is the NCAA balk.

I asked an MLB umpire and he said it's a misdemeanor and not a felony, so he probably wouldn't call it. But he would mirror/support a partner if it was called.

Got ya. I see a problem same as @JonnyCat & @The Man in Blue, a 1/2 day camp to decide who gets to move on is a very small sample size. When hiring you want the largest funnel possible. Plus candidates with skin in the game is valuable. They've severely shrunk that by not coexisting with the schools. This will also ripple to impact NCAA umpiring. It will be something to watch for how it plays out.

That is the school they go to. It was being made to sound like, you go to the 1/2 day camp then straight to MiLB. You still have to be near the top of the class to get a job. Yes it is invite only... Just like it always has been to get a job in MiLB. You would go to Evans, Harry's, etc... but then you would get invited to PBUC which is now the MLB Umpire Academy. They just brought it all in house to control everything. The "free" model gets people who may not be able to afford it to go.

I honestly don't know. It seems like this kind of move happens unpenalized in MLB. This is a HS kid and I asked him if he's been balked for it and he said not yet. I'm not current on NFHS rules, so not sure what is correct there.

Because as soon as we form a “collection” (ie. association / organization / union), any power we have begins to erode due to squabbling about “who should be in charge”, and “who gets assigned to which games”, and “who is “better” than who” (and should get paid / assigned more). Leadership takes (a cut, a rake, a skim, a fee), and invariably and inevitably, someone gets butt-hurt about the operations of said collective. That someone forms their own entity, and subsequently under-&-out-bids the existing leadership in due time, likely sniping umpires from the previous entity by enticing with “better” pay and assignments. Then you get the “loyalty wars”. The machine churns on.

There is absolutley NO WAY this guy could have made it to O-6 in the Navy. I have had the privilege to serve with numerous O-6s (some who made it to O-8) and they NEVER would have made it that far with that type of behavior. I would be suspect of his entire resume.

Maybe he's worked with 250 partners because nobody will work with him twice.
