Just wanted to say this isn't the Japanese league, this is a Taiwanese league.  This type of behavior used to be considered somewhat acceptable in the Japan league but after Mike Dimuro resigned it got cleaned up a lot.

You can see in this first clip how aggression against umpires used to be acceptable.  The umpire says in the newspaper the next day "Nobody saw the play closer than I did, therefore I made the call with the utmost self-confidence."

I know this guy.. I bet that coach wont Bump the Umpire again.

Absolutely.  And I also bet Kennedy won't be umpiring in the CPBL much longer either.  Does he teach that choke move at HWUS?

C'mon bro. That's totally uncalled for. Your an umpire for God's sake. We're all supposd to be better than that. Would you want to be shown up and have a cheap shot like that taken towards you on a public forum? I'm sure he regrets it, and has learned from the situation. Show some professionalism and have some ediquette. I think you owe Mr. Kennedy an apology. If not, I'll apologize for you.

Are you now the public umpire forum police?  Are you on the lookout for any ill word typed on here about anyone who straps it on and charged with demanding apologies from those who may not fall in line with your view of "professionalism"?  If so, you are going to be busy on here.  How about starting with those who bitch and complain about the SH*#ty partners they always have to work with?  Try reading some of those and administering your keyboard justice to them as well.  And what is this "We're all supposed to be better than that"?  Better than what?  I saw an umpire grab a coach by the neck.  How about being better than that?  If you or I did that and it made it on You Tube, or the local paper, or the police blotter, we would be lit up on forums like these.  Just like the douche umpire who got arrested and tazed for umpiring drunk. Remember that?  We would be taking keyboard cheap shots from every umpire on here.  So we will just be "better than that" in this situation because of who it is and where he works?

No, I am not the public umpire forum police. I don't go looking for trouble, as I'm quiet and for the most part, mind my own business. But I do know when something is way out of line, and that particular comment was. You and I have never met Mr. Kennedy. Neither of us know of the total circumstances beyond what was shown in the video. According to his profile, Mr. Kennedy is still working for the CPBL. So apparently the matter was dealt with by the excutives of the CPBL and he's still active. He is where he is because he earned the right to be there. That doesn't mean he can't do wrong. It doesn't mean what he did was right. It just means that there is a level of respect that he (and any umpire) is due.

Those who "bitch" and "complain" about their partners don't call their partners out by name. Yes, it is a fine line, and it is not comfortable talking about other umpires. There is a tactful way of discussing what other umpires do so that we can learn from them, and also offer the "offended" partner some wisdom on how to help that troubled umpire. I realize that it's all about heart. If I make a mistake, I would hope that someone would kindly correct me, not just bash me, or show me up. I wouldn't like that so why would I do that to them? I can't learn if I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Likewise, I try to help others by showing them through what I learned, and not humiliating them. We are all at different levels, and should strive to be the best we can be. But these ideals take personal willingness of yourself and other folks, and I have no control over that.

What I meant by the "better than that", is that by being umpires, we are held to a higher standard, and as such, must live up to that standard. That means being trustworthy, honorable, selfless, courteous, non-confrontational, firm, and thus command respect by all. If you want respect, you give respect. Making the HWUS comment was not honorable orcourteous; was confrontational, mean; not to mention a ding against HWUS. That's why I said "better than that." Being an umpire doesn't end in the locker room or parking lot. It's a lifestyle that carries throughout your day.

You may have a point concerning you or I doing it and being lit up on forums like this. I can't control what others do. I can only control what I do. I saw this same action in the other thread, but I chose not to comment because I didn't fully know the circumstances behind the altercation, what preceded it, and what happened after it. Until I have all the facts, I cannot make a judgment in total, even though I saw the questioned act, and know that that was not wise to do. Even then I am very reserved in holding judgment of the action, not the person, and wouldn't call that person out in any venue. I can only say that when I see a video or story like that, I do not personalize it. I keep it neutral, point out what I feel are mistakes, and then say what I have learned on how to deal with that problem. This can lead to constructive conversation that yields learning for everyone. Calling out Mr. Kennedy like you did was just wrong, especially in an open setting. That's why I said what I said.

I don't know you. I have not passed any judgment on you. I'm not saying your a bad person, or a bad umpire, or anything else. I just made my remark based solely on what you said. That's the beginning and end of my remark: what you said. I do believe an apology is in order, and if you feel it's not, I'll still apologize because the umpiring profession is bigger than us all, and so is baseball. I'm not God's gift to U-E. I'm not U-E Police. I'm just me. I stand for principle, and I'm not ashamed of that.

Most of us are here to learn. Most of the people here are excellent umpires. I think we all respect other umpires but at times we just have to vent about the partners that get thrown at us.
