Wifey bought me a Champro 16 inch Pro Plus Plate Armor CP for christmas. Anyone have any experience with the CP? I was mainly wanting to use it for every level except Collegiate or Elite Travel ball. I have used their Soft Shell CP for years at youth league and like how it fits, and breathes.

I stand 6'1 and have 30 inch inseam. I have a long torso for my frame. I know that 16 seems a little long but the wilson platinum barely covers my rib cage. The last bruises on my belly from my platinum finally faded around 6 weeks after my last game for the year. That was one of the requirements I asked for if she got me a new CP.

I have a "Champro Pro-Plus Umpire Chest Protector (#CP135)"

I like it, I got the arm exstentions. I say I like it and not I love it because I have found it to be really hot and the protection around the collar is not that good. I do like it and it will take a good shot. No problems in HS level ball other than the collar protection but I have just been keeping my chin down and I got a throat protector fir my mask and problem salved.

I've got the soft shell version of this and like it very much...but this shares the same fatal flaw as that model, the plastic buckles exposed in the front. My 16 yr old was wearing it for a 9/10 yr old game, not very fast pitching at all. But one caught it just right and broke the prongs that go into the left buckle. Not sure if it's worth fixing.

I broke my soft shell the exact same way in a 16U game. ("Idiot!" - Napoleon Dynamite)

I was glad to see metal clips with no moving parts on the platinum. This is one reason I upgraded.

Nice chest protector. Watch the clips one of mine broke. Contacted the manufature and they siad to send the whole thing back. All that for one small clip. Pluse i had to fuse at them so the would take it back. Mine wasnt a year old

I have used this protector for a full season now, and can give some feedback.

Levels used: American Legion, up to state finals Tournament level ball, 18U travel Ball, and minor College level ball. HS ball, V and JV, and some 15U travel ball.

I do not find this protector to be overly hot. The mesh padding breathes good, and I normally wear Smitty shirts, or the Honig's shirts with my state logo sewn on them.

The top of the protector makes you look like a linebacker. I "fold in" the flap on my right side to keep that arm free for stike calls, and have no problems. I use the traditional box plate stance with hands on knees.

I have never had the problems of taking a shot on the clips and having one of them break, so I cannot answer that question well. There is a little more room around the neck area than my wilson, and I like that. I use a Diamond mask with a throat protector.

I also have the arm extensions, and after I spent a few games getting adjusted, they work great.

The chest protector stays in place fairly well, I find after a long weekend of games, I have to re-adjust the straps minimally.

Overall, for the price, I love this protector. I have taken lots of hits, and am non worse for the wear. Even on the "gap" section I hardly felt a hit. Other than being overly bulky at the top, I would recommend this protector.

the buckle problem is an easy fix. i slid them under the plates so they have a little protection and above all hide those tell tale unsightly bulges.
